you know what Yoshihro is doing...

take a look it's documented here:

http://www.xbox-linux.org/docs/eepromcontents.html

-----
//Comes configured up to here from factory.. everything after this can be zero'd out...
//To reset Xbox to Factory settings, Make checksum3 0xFFFFFFFF and zero all data below (0x64-0xFF)
//Doing this will Reset Xbox and upon startup will get Language & Setup screen...
unsigned char Checksum3[4]; // 0x60 - 0x63 other Checksum of next
-----

So your setting it back to factory settings when you change the eeprom!

Yoshihro is saying that from the 0x60 position in the eeprom to put

FFFFFFFF000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000004000000

This is documented in the above
However the last part with the 4 isn't

Anyway when I spoke to him earlier today he said he was making an xbox installer to patch it on it's own

(I wonder if you can use the text editor in unleashx
EDIT alongside of Evox backup)

EDIT Yoshihro's news
http://www.gueux-forum.net/index.php?showtopic=18875&st=0

Sorry people I was too caught up in the blox project (and too tired) to realise this - ain't easy talking when you don't speak french

THANKS Yoshihro!!!!

EDIT EDIT this means the protection on the 5530s is actually elsewhere (does it not) and it's only set when these boxes pass through the factory - I wonder if the Dash downgrade nono is the similar on the crystal boxes that would be great wouldn't it

All thanks goto EdGe as I was searching for USB pinouts for him when I found it!

So he can make a memory card USB converter like mine
(this avoids all 'yellow wire' isses the xbox has - yellow wire aledgedly tells the xbox if the device attached is an official or not and as far as I can see this wire/pin is never used inside of memorycards)

Hmmm I come to look closer and wonder if it's the 5530 bios picking up this 'C4FFFFFF' at the 0x8C position lised as '// 0x8C - 0x8F Daylight Bias?' in the documentation above
EDIT not that part I blanked and it didn't work

This is since I have 3 eeproms (one being from a 5530 bios)
And I know the 5530 bios doesn't work PBL on my older eeprom boxes so what ever it picks up on is native to older eeproms.

(I'm ignoring the time date functionality - for now)

This is all assuming that factory mode doesn't reset something elsewhere in the console.

EDIT from what I see of config magic the blank eeproms supplied in it should do a factory reset
However
1) the 4 is missing
2) the serail number for your xbox will be blanked so no more live

Maybe take an eeprom alter it and replace it back into config magic... hmmmm

Okay bit the full bullet tried it out ended up with my original eeprom exactly the same but for '0400 0000' at the end

And well I booted my 5530 bios on my modchip (XENIUM!) and PBL still didn't work :(

I used Evox to backup my eeprom data altered it and then replaced the eeprom.bin in config magic final with my modded one.

Booted unlocked the drive loaded it up flashed it across and then loaded the eeprom again (the one now on the xbox) locked the hard drive and that's it

It rebooted asked me for language, timezone and daylight savings.

But it still didn't work
maybe I need another number other than 4

EDIT no I will not make an easy tutorial on this for the moment too much can go wrong let me mess it up first lol

EDIT EDIT emailed the guru Yoshihiro asking him if he can throw any light on the subject in the meen while I'll keep destroying my xbox piece by piece lolz - joke it will probably be at least 12 hrs before I hear anything back though

Found something in an old 1.0 eeprom last bit was '00810000' placed it into my eeprom (no factory reset though) and still had no joy :(

Good to see that people are putting effort in solving this problem.

Hope there will be a patch for this kernel very soon.

No reply from Yoshihro yet think he might only have spare time at the weekends now :(

However I think I have an easyish way to do an install of a factory reset eeprom.

We'll see if Yoshihro can throw anymore light on the subject first

Well Gueux has said that the eeprom factory reset is not the best thing to do nor is it what made Yoshihro's console work... he could of told me lol

Quote from Legueux on x-s forums:
We 've just finished differents tests and it's not the good way...sorry (the reset was induced by an other thing).

This night (in France) we have found something very interesting. It's not directly about Phoenix but about Surreal (N64 emulator) witch could not launch with a kernel 5530 (even signed with font or audio hack).

EDIT EDIT they fixed the emulator http://www.gueux.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2325
could Pheonix be on the way next?... we'll all stay tuned

I'll endevour to find out more

EDIT Oh well 5530 users you can still use the Blox system and all the apps in it :) will tied you over until another way to fix this is found. (Everything in the system is audio signed and PBL is an option to load from the dashboards 'Change Bios'
