The official Sony website has put online the Playstation 3, not only is the HDD stated as being detachable yet all quoted storage media are quoted to be sold seperately, perhaps giving the strongest indication yet that Sony will be taking a leaf out of Microsoft's two tier Console packs. In releated news Sony's new online service will be called Playstation HUB and it will support "chat, downloadable demos, independent games and online play

hm, so by sony offering next to identical features as the competitors it hopes to crush the competition? Im willing to bet that compared to microsofts 50 per year membership on live sony will price theres at about double that.

It will be interesting to see how this pans put, every remotely hard core gamer will know Xbox live was the original and predictably the best. Howver, never underestimate the marketing power of the Playstation folks - they could so easily jump the live figures depending on how they market this, for all those who are starting to jump on the online gaming bandwagon, they may well just start with Sony's service and have no idea about Xbox Live therefore.

As much as i wish you weren't right you absolutely are and its sad that it has to be that way but some people are too stubborn.

xbox live is a very nice service, I'm just guessing that if Sony put on play the RPG's on their Playstation HUB service.. they will have a very large fan base. Is kind of strange that they are still not that much RPG online and that Microsoft haven't been able to stick one very good on their libraries. i got my xbox360 but right now I'm playing Dragon Quest VIII in my PS2 with cartoon graphics and is fun as hell!!!! hehehehh.
One big problem with the sony live service I see is that they are offering the HDD as a separate purchase, but are promising a lot of downloads and stuff on their live service, and we know how can it go with our little 20GB drive on 360. Xbox live is more for racing and FPS, is time we start seeing some new concepts.
Playing Dragon Quest VIII and looking at my PSP (which I'm not using to much these days), I wonder why can't I load my game characters into my PSP just to level up their skills and then return home and upload them back..... you don't need a huge game on the PSP just a level up area for the characters.

this is going to be funny, if sony really comes out at $500 witch seems realistic for that machine, people can go to the store and choose between 2 systems that are VERY close in their performance yet the ps3 will be $100 more then 360.
thats going to make a HUGE differance in what console most parents will buy their kids.
then theres revolution, IM GUESSING will release at $199, maybee $250, maybee. also if the revolutin controller is well recived by the mass public im sure sony will copy and double it and call it "DUALGYRO" or something lame like that just like they did with the rumble pack.
and i read that 1 ps3 console will support up to 7, maybee 8 players via wireless controller and i ask WHY, i have a 55" HDTV and i cant imagine splitting it ANY more then 4 ways. i mean WTF, why have 7 controllers connected, lame.
my psp makes a good mp3 player, nuff said.
the only way im willing to buy a ps3 is so i can sell it on ebay for an outrageous price. i bet come launch youll see a few ps3's go on ebay for $2000 or more easy. yeah, thats the only reason i can think of looking forward to a ps3 for.

I don't want to say this to you, but.... there are 2 HDMI ports for a reason..

a dual hdmi port is just pointless, sony was pushing it and showing it in a pic with gran tourismo as a pushed together display which i really could careless about. if your insisting that they are using dual hdmi for up to 7 players that means you are forced to have two hdtv that have those inputs. wouldn't you know though, xbox had something called system link while it did require two systems and two tv's it enabled private lan like parties in your own home on any tv that took av inputs and even rf if you bought the connector, is there anything sony wont bite off microsoft for to make it there own. much easier to buy a 50ft ethernet cable then a 50ft hdmi cable if you wanted to play in large areas but thats my two cents :D

Remember they are trying to sell TV's also!!!... so this is a marketing process, and the least we have to give Sony is that... they know how to sell..:D . I'm sure in the next 2 years HDTV's will be everywhere, I do see some potential on the double display for some types of games or the online menu, wouldn't it be nice if I could always see the dashboard menu of xbox live??? instead of pressing Y, videochat...etc. Is just about evolution, you do have 3 ehternet ports 1 IN 2 OUT... so this could be a hell of a party, 8 controllers - 3 consoles..DAMN!!! ask students on college!!!.
But it really depends on people, everybody roar for the 4 controllers on the xbox, I had never use this feature the max I have used is 2. So I understand they are many features that could be seen as advantages for some people and completely useless for others. I think both of them will turn out to be great like the PS2 and Xbox did:)

so there trying to make a really expensive NDS w/o the touch screen. i thought that was kinda cool on my ds and it costs about the same as 1 HDMI cable, lol.
im not "poor" but im not rich either and im not going to become poor because of sony and gaming. and as always sony has a few good games and ALOT of standard every system generic games that would never use advanced features like dual hdmi.
also in 2 years there could very well be something totally differant and better then HDMI. its just crap to drive uo the cost of the system. remember DVI, last years "GREAT" hookup? thats what my tv has.
now remember how soon your first ps2 died after they came out and u spent $300 on it now your going to spend $500+ on ps3 and if they break ad fast as ps2 are you going to buy another for $500? sony couldent even release psp without big issues, dead pixles ect.
to much crap shoved in the system that most ppl wont use and still pay for.
give me a ps3 that plays games and hooks to 1 tv for $300 and ill buy, till then its not any better then my 360 so im happy with that. hell my NDS has been my fav system lately.
and to finish my rant, if i want to do all that crap the ps3 does i can add it to my PC when ever i want, i can run a sli set up and go out to 2 tv's and a blue-ray player sending movies to both tv's if i wanted. the ps3 games wont be using BR disc's for a year or 2 anyway.
sony must really feel their games cant sell a GAME system alone so they pile on other junk just to look cool.

:p calm down we are just reviewing opinions here :D nothing I said is writen on stone, I don't work for sony I'm just a gamer like everyone else:D . that's why many opinions are very particular. I would buy a PS3 if it cost $2,000 ... I will buy the revolution and already own an xbox360, and I'm not rich neither... it doesn't matter if you like the games buy it!!! but we can't point at any console that it is not woth it for what it have that may not be used or what it doesn't have ( of course many people would say HELL!!! we can) and they are completely right as well.
here are some facts why opinions are very particular:
1. sony couldent even release psp without big issues, dead pixles ect.
Not a problem with mine. I bought it on release, still working great not one dead pixel ( of course is not the case for everyone).
2. if i want to do all that crap the ps3 does i can add it to my PC when ever i want
I know you can... we start doing that with Sound Blaster with Music back in the days..does it makes sence to me...nope. now I use my xbox to hear music
3. sony must really feel their games cant sell a GAME system alone so they pile on other junk just to look cool
Do you feel microsoft do!!! it all depends but in my opinion ps2 games are the main reason ps2 sold more than xbox at the end.
4. now remember how soon your first ps2 died after they came out and u spent $300 on it
This is really funny to me because I bought my PS2 on day 1 and I'm playing it right now... not one problem on all these years.. yes is a ver 1.0, playing Dragon Quest VIII.. just now. But do you know were my xbox360 is right now...Texas Repair Station with the three red light of dead.:D
all points I made can be completely wrong from others point of view or even I can turn them around or have bad opinions on any console. Is just a matter of taste and what makes sense or not for each player .. which means that you are completely right.. for you of course:D

heh, i been debating this with friends alot lately so maybe i am a little worked up on ps3, im on my 4th ps2, my third hadent died when i sold it but it was close, sold it for $50 with a dms3 chip instaled to my friend because i wanted the slim ps2. my 1st was a GT3 box set and that lasted about 10 months and the place i bought it from obviously wouldent exchange it but about when the V7 came out i put mine in a box from a system my buddy bought and found a way to take it back and get another. used the same trick every time one dies, cant do that anymore though.
and my psp had 3 dead pixles, 2 were stuck and i fixed them so now down to 1. not bad but for $250 i expect 0 dead pixles to start with and last. ive never seen a nintendo handheld with dead pixles(other then smashed screens and physical damage), it may happen but why cant sony be more like nintendo in that regaurd?
sorry if i sounded all crazy but i feel sony has let me down and yup, thats just MY opinion.
but really, dual HDMI, LOL!!!!!

I wonder how their homebrew will be supported? They say their HUD service will suport independant titles, but will sony verify each title or something? seems that some games may be biased not to work, like TickleGirl or drugwars I couldn't see available for download direct from sony.
Either way I think that console modding is about to come to a death - too fast and always online are 2 killers to work around. They locked the PSP down quite tightly, I can only think the same for the PS3.

is really sad modding make xbox a dream machine from homebrew games and multimedia stand point of view. Psp was getting there fast but as you said is just halting, the firmware updates and full online connections on consoles seems to be the solution for most of the companies problems but is also the killer of many great applications.
Hey kronikdaddy.. don't worry I know the feeling is happening to me with the 360.. but I still understand the limits of manufacturability of new technology and still 360 is a great console....love the xbox live service by the way. I really think Sony will need something spectacular to beat it...:D

The only reason Microsoft is still in the console war is because it has Live and Sony doesn't. And now that Sony has something similar to Live, Microsoft will lose for sure.

And, have you ever played Madden with your 8 friends on your ps2 and had to buy two multitabs just to play 8 players Madden? Now you know why you would need 7 wireless controllers. Duh. And you would need 7 wireless controllers for games like Smackdown too.

i think the ps3 will be cracked faster then 360, the "homebrew scene" may really slow down when all you can do is play pirated games but im sure it will happen sooner or later. sounds like a 360 mod should happen soon. and the psp work is still going, just more cat and mouse style with the FW updates.
and i dont play the games listed above, no sports for me.

Being a fanboy is one thing but dont be blinded by ignorance. To say the only reason xbox is in the race is because of live is ridiculous. Every game that has been multi consoled has been better on the original xbox according to any reviewer, even the biased people at gamespot. When it was a three console competition and microsoft was ranking number two instead of three that should show you there was a fan base that enjoyed the games with and without live. Until the 360 i never once used live and preferred the xbox over the ps2. My ps2 just sits in my media rack collecting dust because theres been nothing after ratchet and clank 3 that has been worth playing. You can agree or disagree its all cool, but when major game developers speak highly about both systems who are you to judge.
