How to exploit an unmodded Xbox?

alright, i wanna buy an Xbox, and i want to install the exploit onto it in order to play backups/homebrew software.
i've been searching the net for some time now and ive found many different methods.
my questions are:
what is the newest exploit?
what is the easiest method of installing the exploit (is there an exploit installer or something like that)?
what is the cheapest method of installing the exploit? (i dont want to buy an action replay or the 007 game as im not interested in using either of them)

it would be great if someone could hook me up with whats going on recently in the xbox-exploit scene.

some guy told me that a while ago he put his xbox hdd into his pc, swapped some files using some buggy tools, put it back into his xbox and it worked fine afterwards, but it was a pretty fastidious procedure.
please give me some info about this.

what is the newest exploit?
There are a lot of variations of old exploits coming about so it depends on exactly what you want. The Phoenix Loader is the exploit that has been getting the most attention as of late.

what is the easiest method of installing the exploit (is there an exploit installer or something like that)?
Well Wooger is currently working on an auto installer but untill that is finished the easiest way is to follow a guide from the utorials section that Zeus posted.

what is the cheapest method of installing the exploit?
The HDD swap method would be the cheapest IF you dont already own a copy of 007 or Mechassault and a Memory Unit or Action Replay.
