I've had my Datel 4gig w/battery for a few months now and just last night I tried to turn on my psp and nothing. It has been a while since I last plugged it in, so I did just that and left it overnight. Now still there is nothing, I took the battery out and blew out the contacts, reset the system settings and even going to the battery options, it doesn't recognize a battery is in the system.
Has anyone else had this problem? Being several months old I don't think I'll be able to exchange it.

I saw info on this problem on another forum but it was related to the stock battery. I suspect that since they use the same technology for the DATEL they could suffer from the same issue.

Anyway the remedy was to short out the + and - terminals on the battery with a piece of wire for 30 seconds. Once this was done you could then put the battery back in a do a full recharge.

This supposedly fixed something like 90% of all the dead battery issues.

shorting a battery for more than a few seconds is a highly dangerous thing to do.
the recommendation is short it for a few seconds. 30 presents risk of fire or explosion and is an extremly risky procedure. as for the datel battery yes it should suffer from the same problem - i believe it has something to do with the contacts, but i could be wrong about that. (and probably am)
plug the battery in while the psp changer is plugged in and while the psp is switched on - the battery indicator on screen and the light should come on - if it doesnt and the orig battery is ok you can deduce the battery is dead.
gl with this assuming you didnt already damage it by shorting it for 30 seconds.

I did some checking on this and it seems to be that maybe it has something to do with the system itself.
When the system is plugged in with a/c, the battery indicator shows a full charge, BUT, when I go to system settings/battery information it says:
Charge Left -
Hours Left -
Power Source External
Battery Status -
And when I unplug the a/c the unit is on for about 2 seconds then shuts off. Now this is with both the original battery and the Datel X2 battery.
If anyone has heard of this or may know anything about it I would really appreciate the help.

The reason for that is If you notice the battery has 3 pads. The 3rd one is a data connection of sorts. They are smart batteris and the console is able to identify them. The problem is that the battery gets somewhat confused about it's current status and the console displays it as full.

Just do the short out method. Try it for a couple of seconds and see if it helps. If not then try it for longer as I believe the article I had seen said to do it for 30 seconds.
