Ok. So, I've searched what seem the entire forum, and I haven't seen anyone with my problem. Excuse me, I'm quite a noob at the xbox exploits.
Here's the problem: I download the Mechassault save game hack to my memory card and transport it to the hard drive, but when I go to load the game, it says: "cannot load <load linux> ......" What am I doing wrong? I've delete all other data on the HD. I noticed that the xbox makes a mechwarrior save file when initially starting. Would this have anything to do with it?
-Thanks much!

That could be 1 of 3 issues.
1) There may be MA download content present on your HD.
2) U have a newer, patched version of Mechassault.
3) MAsave.sav got corrupted during the transfer.

OK. Um, I got my xbox used, but the HD is completely wiped. I did not get the platinum hit version of Mech Assault, but the 5-dollar-cheaper, used, uglier looking one. My Action Replay program says the save game is OK, it copies over to the HD of the xbox fine. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

If it's an Action replay memcard, they're known to corrupt files. Try another card if u have one available.

Thanks for the quick replys. My action replay memory card can transfer the regular save game files over ok.....all the preloaded ones work perfectly. Does it just have problems transfering this file? (I've downloaded numerous versions of it) Does it have problems with larger files?
Edit: I don't have the problem listed on the site you linked to.
Edit: I found another forum (finally!) with someone who had a similar problem to mine. It seems my version of Mechassault (as you said) is too new. It's the game of the year addition (though not Plantinum Hits). Apparantly that's just too new. Thanks for all your help!

Ok. I take back whatever I said in my last post. I went out and bought a used copy of Mechassault that did not have a "game of the year" sticker or a "platinum hits" border. It has the same problem as my other version, saying cannot load <run linux>" Is this a typical error to get if your memory card hasn't copied the file properly (I dont want to spend 40 bucks canadian on a memory card if I don't have to. Thanks!

Yeah, that is a typical error, although most times the XBE gets corrupted and not the exploited game-save.
Try renaming MAsave.sav (don't delete) then re-copy it back onto the memcard from the original zip.. If the old one is on a bad block, renaming it will keep it there and put the new sav on a fresh block.
Also, I bought the Madcatz starter pack, it came with an 8 meg card, a controller and an extensio, all for $20 USD.

Ok. Well I went ahead an rented Agent Under Fire and copied that save hack over, and it works. I used a self installing Morden's Audio Hack thing, but when I go into all the copying stuff, when I hit the end.....the xbox resets. So, I went back into the self installing program and told it to remove the hack. It had some scripting error, and now it can't get back to normal. (Can't copy any cd's) I erased all the visible files off the HD. I'm afraid to use the fonts exploit because of the horrid clock thing. I'll keep trying stuff.
-My xbox is version 1.0

The audio hack is the file
E:\TDATA\fffe0000\music\ST.DB
Delete this and no more hack plus you can then copy audio off your cd's again :)

Yeah, after surfing around for a while, I found out how to fix it....the way you said. I decided that if I was going to use the soft hack, I'd need a bigger HD anyway. It would be sweet to just use a new, bigger HD for the hack, so when it messes up (or I decide not to use it anymore) I could just swap HDs and it would be fixed. Anyway thanks much for replying!

no problem but you don't really need a bigger HD
Unless your well you know ;) going disc less shall we say :)

Yeah, discless would be key, but I understand formatting and transfering files and keys to the new HD is somewhat complicated.

I was trying to say your using such a big HD for playing games without discs lol
Sorry was tired then
Anyway Xenium modchip will clone drives very easily (unless you already have a large f: partition - I'm betting Arti has sorted this with their next os)

So, yeah. Now I've got even more problems. Yah see, I followed that great tutorial catfish made, and...well...how do I put this......unlockx won't let me relock the original xbox hd. It says that the drive is not lockable. So, yeah. I'm preaty screwed. Any help would be awesome.
edit: the locking programs also say my original xbox hd is frozen. Doesn't that mean I can't ever lock it again? I followed the h/d replacement guide perfectly. What went wrong?

take your time and don't worry, if it unlocked, it will lock again.
Check to make sure the cables are secure.
Check to make sure the HD is on the primary IDE channel.
Start from a powered-off state, the drive should be attached before power-on.
If these things fail, replace the IDE cable, sometimes they can separate and cause errors. (caused by pulling the ribbon directly)

I've checked the cables multiple times, and yes it's on the primary IDE....but unlockx still says it's not lockable. Another program said that my original xbox HD is now frozen.....which they said meant that I can't lock it.....because it came that way from the maufacturer's. That doesn't make much sense though. Anyway.....yeah.....I'm still stuck.

So, once again I've given up on modding. Actually, I'm basically forced to. So......yeah. That's about it. Guess I'll have to spend another 200 or so bucks on another xbox. Oh well. Serves me right.

Windering if this might help

yeah. I've tried that one....all of the ones I could find I downloaded and tried. The problem is this. The tutorials say that if your hard drive is labeled as "frozen", you cannot lock/unlock it. However, this is determined at the factory. So, the fact that I unlocked my HD and cannot relock it is rather confusing.

OK. So here's the deal. I got extremely frustrated with the whole situation, and I decided to pray to God. After that, I got an idea to do a hot-swap thing. So, I did...and it just so happened to let me lock the original. Sounds a little cheesy eh? Oh well, I know there's no way I would have though that up on my own. Anyway, thanks for all your help!
