View Full Version : MS: 360 only major console to increase hardware sales this year
MS has commented that sales of the Xbox 360 have grown 20 percent in the first half of 2009 (based on NPD figures) and indicate that their console is the only one to increase hardware sales this year.

Microsoft said sales of its Xbox 360 game console grew 20% in the first half of 2009, citing figures from NPD Group. The Redmond, Wash., technology company crowed that the data show it was the only major console to increase hardware sales this year (implying that sales of Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PlayStation 3 were down from last year).

Whatever the excuse it doesn't change the fact. And of course your excuse is not a proven fact so it is in fact not even a valid excuse!!

There is some truth to his comment just look around here to find the amount of people who own more than one 360 either due to reliability or lack of hdmi in early models or the huey helicopter of a internal fan on early models. I was tempted as my original is to loud to use regular. Also the first 18 months people did not have the extended warranty so how many binned a broken machine and bought a new one which came bundled with games which increases the attach rate. Early adopters are more hardcore gamers so they would buy a new one especially if there is no hd gaming console rival to look to at that point.

No mate, you're pulling this out of proportion. They are saying the sales increased this year. I have an early model (April 2006) and that is my only one and no loud fan as you mentioned.

Same here, i also have my first one bought in 2007 i believe, (maybe even before that (2006 probably) as time flys), and ive never considered buying another as this one is fine. Im sure theres millions of people who have only ever bought one too, and yes some people who have 2, but i dont think thats the majority, far from it.

Exactly. A friend of mine still has an 06 model. I have 2 360's myself. I keep one in the living room, and one in the bedroom. It's also good for when your friends are over and want to play games that don't have split screen, but have System Link.

and then the fanboys wanna scream that the only reason the 360 has a lead on the ps3 is because it has more games, better games, cheaper development costs, and no 1 year lead..........if only sony made a faulty system and have a good chunk of its userbase have 2 (or more) ps3's....sigh :D
wonder if micro will ever release some chart showing how much unique 360 owners there are.....NEVER.....ps3 might be tied with it :D

It must be a successful formula. Worked for the PS2. Sony should have stuck with it. haha

i kno rite....im like u tho (never had a problem with his 360)...i never had a prob with my ps2, but i heard alot about peoples lasers going bad and stuff, and then sony taking in all that and fixes the problems...what happens??? it backfires......this world is so mysterious....you make a broken system, people buy it and gripe.....make a working one, people dont buy it and still gripe....
hmm....if someone could find a balance between the 2...

Nintendo's probably the only one with a winning formula so far. All of their systems, as far as I can remember, have been dependable and made them money (even the flops).

ps2 had 90 day warranty
360 had 3 year warranty
even if people bought 360s again in the end.. who cares? they obviously liked 360 enough to buy it again. how many people would buy a ps3 again if it ylods. i doubt not near as many as 360.
so m$ is doing something right :)

True, and I know it's not any sort of indication but 5 of the 6 people I know with the 360 have at least two of them. I just picked up another 360 two months ago.

Errrm, does it matter if people own 150 each never mind 2?
Does it matter if my nan brought 1 for a door stop?
No. The system is selling well and has a heathy game to console sales ratio DESPITE all of them apparently being either broke or hacked. Get over it.
No it's not sold as many as the Wii. Very strange indeed.. but good luck to Nintendo for breaking with tradition and releasing a cheap (at the time) unconventional console.
Having 360, PS3 and Wii to play with in my house it's fair to say the PS3 is the least used of the lot. Heaven knows why but I just can't bring myself to like it.
