Can't get Wii to tell me my firmware version

I wanted to look into softmodding my sister's Wii (PAL) and, when going to Wii Settings, there's no firmware info on the top right corner, just the black background. Can anyone tell me if there's any other way of checking the firmware?

Something sounds wrong, are you sure that you are in the right section of the settings (I think you select settings>settings or something like that.

I was (in the right place), as I was looking for it in the same place as I found mine. Nevertheless, all of a sudden after she played Wii Fit it turned up there, 3.1E - I've softmodded now! :D
