Hi guys.
I posted a thread earlier, in which i needed tips on how to change the laser on the wii. Well, I changed the laser, it shines and the drive works as well, but i noticed that the guy who modded the console did a terrible job and there are wires everywhere and the modchip isnt in the proper "site". The console is still not reading discs. I also noticed that the console had a D2cPro, which ive been told is a clone.
Now, what I want to know is that can a person remove the modchip? Im thinking about removing the chip, and checking if its the modchips fault. Also are there any fuses that may be affecting this, cause my homes electricity went haywire and since then this problem has occured (the wii was plugged in but off at the time)
Thankx

If you have a d2cpro remove it , they are a load of sh8te, just touch the connection for a split second with a soldering iron and gently pull the wire away, rinse and repeat on all connections, then check your wii drive is functioning correct ,if yes then there are plenty of solutions out there you can use to mod your wii .

After removing a modchip, in general, does the console read originals?

your console will be back to a un modded state once the chip is removed and will play original games with no issues.

Im gonna work on my console by this weekend and will post a couple of photos of the faulty chip installation.
Also, I hope i dont have to remove the solder from it right? Just touch the connection for a couple of secs and remove the wire?
Wish me luck.

just touch the solder with your hot iron and gently pull on the wire at the same time and it will come away ,as soon as you feel the wire moving pull the soldering iron away from the solder.

:( update. I removed the chip successfully but now the wii turns on fine but the drive doesnt seem to work, it doesnt make any noise or suck the discs, have i missed a cable? what now?

I guess the heat from the soldering iron got the fuse or something..hmmm shud i go to a retail store and get a new wii...;), which store has the best return policy?

first check that your DVD drive is plugged in properly and the ribbon cable is in. if that fails then its most likley that you have blown a fuse theres a sticky at the top of the "Wii Hacking, Tuning & Customization" section on how to fix it

I just checked all the cables, they are all properly connected. I checked the sticky thread but cant see the image showing which fuse im supposed to bridge also what wire should i use? Do i just touch the iron to the point or do i have to melt solder and connect it like that?

I dont have a meter to measure which fuse is "dead" so I gues Ill just blob one, see if it works and then blob the other if its still no good.
Also, I placed an order on a new drive, I think its the d3, i guess ill be able to just swap it in the end.

Just when things seemed they couldnt get worse, I blobed both fuses, now the wiis power light turns on but when i push the button to turn it on it dies, no light, then i wait for a few seconds put the plug back in and it does the same thing. Any new help?
Also, if i replace the drive will all my stored data be lost? I cant turn it on otherwise id save it on my sd card, are there any other ways?

you can replace your drive and you will not loose any data.
