Microsoft has confirmed that new Xbox 360 units come with an upgraded 512MB of memory. A Spokesperson noted they want to give consumers a bit more memory so they can enjoy more experiences on XBOX LIVE.

“We want to offer consumers a bit more memory at the same low price so they can enjoy more experiences on Xbox Live,” a spokesperson stated.

“The Xbox 360 system software uses some of the included 512MB memory – less storage will be available to users. Additional storage may be needed for game saves, Xbox Live Arcade games, content downloads, personal file storage, and additional enhanced functionality.

What they need to do is switch to hard drives. Even if it's a small one.

But noooo, that would be something that actually makes sense, and they wouldn't dare do that!

I have to agree, the arcade should ship with 20GB HDD and wired controllers, the Premium with 60GB and wireless controllers, and the elite with 120GB wireless controllers and the wifi addon.

Tho that said, off subject abit I know, if they can afford to give internal flash ram at no extra cost, surely they can afford to add wifi internally.

For a moment there I thought it was system memory we were talking about (as in RAM) I was going to wonder how older 360s would be able to handle the extra load. Maybe it should read storage upgrade, but anywho, I agree just stick and HDD in there already. How much can they be worth at this point anyways?

small hard drives are killers to maintain long term contracts on, most manufacturers don't devoting product lines to them there's little if any possible cost saving and there's always the demand to go higher, i feel that's probably why the 20gb ps3 was discontinued that and install space.
