which is better now? softmod or modchip?

I had a wii modded with the wiinja chipset, sold it last year. Now seeing that the softmod scene has matured , I am thinking of getting one as it looks like a fairly easy DIY project, unlike the modchip install, where I had to spend xtra cash to send it to an installer plus the cost of the modchip.

So is there any disadvantage to the softmod? I am mainly getting it for wiisports, wiifit, punchout and the new wiiactive game

It depends, with the advent of bannerbomb, softmod is now free as long as you have an SD card.

So you could always try the softmod first and see what its like. Then if you dont like it get the chip.

Chips though are less restrictive as the usable media is more versatile (+ and - r's).
