How to make PSTwo Region Free?

I picked up one of those $99 PS2 slims and would like to play Japanese games on it. What is the easiest way to enable region free games? As I am useless with a soldering iron, is there a software hack? They are original games, so I do not need to be able to play backups (though if it's an easy hack, I certainly wouldn't mind being able to).

Sorry if this seems like a question that has been answered 100 times. I did a cursory search but it's hard to find current information and I am not sure about this specific version of PS2.
