Well my friend doesn't want to open his Wii ,but is anxious to see emulation and homebrew software.

Is there a way to get this thing "open" without Zelda and is it possible to boot copies of his software also?

The twilight hack is a softmod, meaning that you don't need to physically open the wii. You couldn't possibly have an easier mod! So no, the only way to mod without zelda is to physically open the wii and install a modchip.
