Hi there.

I did some Wasabi Zero installations before, bought the new Wasabi DX and tryed to install it yesterday.

Got a Nintendo Wii from a friend and tryed the Wasabi Zero First, didnt work (Red Light) tryed another Chip and didnt work also. then unbox the new Wasabi DX and mount it like read on tuturials. After some ajustments with the JTAG connectors the light comes green.

When i put a copy or the configuration disc 1.2 a black screen with a error message on the screen:

"An error has occurred. Press eject button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii Console off and refer to the wii operations manual for help troubleshooting"

I tryed a original copy of Wii Sports, the icon apears but when i press it the wii restarts.

Any help? Is there a version of wii's that need to do something tu put it working?
Firmware Version 3.4E
Thanks in advance.

I resolved by updating the firmware of the wasabi at rev. 1.2 using a DVD-R :)

Oh and also I tryed to update the disc with Wasabi DX Upgrade 1.2 , Well I burned the disc and then inserted in the wii. the disc spins and then stopped with Disc Read Error. what the hell ? O_o

@goapixas

OKi.. a few things.. make sure when installing that the jumpers are in the right position as when i first started mine up it came up with a red light...
2nd... i notice that not all the button IE reset and sometimes the wiimote on will not work unless the face plate is plugged in.
3rd cover up the chip... with electrical tape as it will short and bring up errors… DO NOT USE DUCK TAPE!!!!
4th make sure you have the right disk to burn on as that also will produce errors. I found that Verbatim DVD-R burnt with imgburn work the best.
5 update your chip with the latest firmware.
6th.. if all else fails slam your head up against the wall till the pretty colours are permanente
When installing be sure to check the wasabi site for the right way of installing it… or youtube

Yesterday we installed 2 Wasabi DX's in two different Wii's. We both had the exact same problem. But as far as I can tell it's all due to the media we used, Platinum DVD+R.

I burned it with all the burners I have in the house. But no difference in results. Well I'm lying, it can read 1 disc, but then after a while it all comes back to the same disc error.

I can play original discs without a problem ( so far ).

To update the chip to 1.2 we had to dig deep and find a lost DVD-R dics lying around. With that one it was possible to upgrade the Wii.

In my opinion it's all a matter of using the right media, and preferably DVD-R.
I found a list earlier, but imo I'm sure that alot of users here could add too it to get it more accurate.

Since I can't post links put http : // before it or paste it in the address bar( lame btw )
wiki.scorpei.com/index.php/Wii_DVD_compatibility_list

I hope it helps someone to get it working.

All I can conclude is that the Wasabi has poor disc support, and it needs a seperate list somewhere of the discs that DID work without a problem. In the hope they bring out a patch for better read support.

OMG THANKS !! it works !!!!!!

Glad it helped.

Apparently you can get the DVD+R Platinum to work ... with the right burner. So besides the picky media, you also have to write it with the writer that suits the media ... makes it all a bit tricky imo.

As I see it, Maxell is the best bet if you want to try your first disc. All the other brands ( I can be totally wrong ) seem to change their producers depending on the type of disc they sell ( colored or not, slim case etc ).

Hope this helps some future readers too. And I hope to find some good DVD-R media myself ( or a better DVD writer :p )

I had the same problem, nothing but error messages and the original Wii sports disk jut kept looping back the the Wii menu. As posted I tried to use Maxwell DVD-R disks. I burned the Wasabi update with the DVD-R and it worked! After that, all of my backup games burned on Maxwell DVD-Rs work like a charm! Can't count how many times sharing knowledge on the net saved my ass! Thanks!

I had the same problems of all disc getting an error shortly after i put them in.
I am using ridata dvd-r.
I kept messing with my wii until it worked.
Both my wiis' are usa region, but i found that if i switched dip 1 up and dip 2(opposite of diagram.) down i could play backups, update disc and original disk. i still cant play some backup games such as mario kart, for these i get the picture of the game in the wii menu and when I click on it; it loads and stops at a black screen. I hope this helps a little.

What abouth the LED's on a wasabi DX?
I placed a wasabi DX and powered it on to test it.
The LED went RED and stayed RED.
It only changed to green, when i place an original disk.
Does it has to change to GREEN also without a disk placed in the drive?
When i place a copied DVD in the drive, it starts to spin and the Wii blocks.
I have to pull the power cable to reset the Wii, because i can't switch it of with the power switch.
Any idea's what could be wrong.

Thx,

the wasabi dx work fine with 4.1 firmware, you more than likely have a faulty wasabi. send it back to your supplier and ask them to test it for you.

Wasabi DX worked flawless with Mario Party 8.

Have you tried the Beta 2.0 firmware. It isn't just to enable the Wasabi ZERO mode, it also applys some updates to the DX part.

Also. What region is your game backup? What region is your console? And, How are you connecting to the TV (CComponent cables EDTV/HDTV, Composite, SCART, etc...)?

I just installed mine on a D2Nothing on a newer Wii, and I get that black screen error. Did anyone figure out how to fix the issue? I burned using 4x on a Samsung drive using Verbatim DVD-R, and Taiyo Yuden or whatever DVD+R using booktype of DVD-ROM. I get the black screen trying to use the upgrade ISO from Wasabi's website.

I installed using the Wasabi chip with the ribbon cable that came with it. When the system turns on the chip turns red. But when a DVD is in the drive the chip turns green. I can load Wii Sports. Also I can get into the 3x eject menu on the Wasabi chip. I took pics of the internals, but feel like I am doing something wrong here. Any help?

My question was answered by their tech support. I still can't find this info on my own, and their website doesn't say anything about not working on certain drives.

Please make sure that your drive is compatible. There is a new and rare drive called (D3-2) and this one is not compatible, our R&D team is working on it to find a solution as soon as we have more information we will post them on our web site. You can find more information concerning the new drive over the net, here are some example find with Google

Hi all, just registered :)

I've just fitted a DX to my son's Wii. I didn't think to check the chipset, but it's 1-2 years old now so it'll be one of the older ones.

It plays original games just fine (phew !).
I've been into the config menu, so that's working.
I've also burned the 2.0 beta firmware onto a Ridata DVD-R and that read OK and updated the system.

But I tried burning a couple of games onto the same type of disk, at the same burn speed, and neither worked. Is it likely to be dodgy images ?

Also, I have a number of old backups I burned some time ago on TDK -R media. One or two of these did work with the Homebrew Channel softmod, but now they all DON't work...

Any ideas please ? I'm guessing it's just crappy disk images I have... Is there any way to tell without burning and trying it (and potentially wasting *another* disk) ?

Cheers,
DazBags

Strange problem.

Does sound like bad images/discs... Are the discs even being read? When you put a game in does the SystemMenu see it through the disc channel? Or do you just get a black screen on load?

I personally use http://www.diskdepot.co.uk/acatalog/philips-16x-dvd-r-full-face-inkjet-printable-47gb-50-disc-s-philips053.htm ... those Philips x16 DVD-R media. I burn at the full 16x speed, with a Pioneer DVR-212D and Nero 8.3.13.0. Never had a backup not work on it with the Wasabi DX.

You can try re-writables... but the Wii and Re-writable playability is flakey at best. Don't know if anyone can recommend a decent rewritable media for you. But i'd be guessing.

The game icon doesn't appear in the system menu, no. Just the spinning disk...

When I click the icon, after a few seconds I see the black screen with the usual 'error reading disk, eject then turn the Wii off' message.

That's because the Wasabi doesn't work on the newest systems. I ended up buying a replacement drive off of ebay for $50 and it works.

I remember reading something about certain drives were better to burn DVD-R's for the Wii to read. Maybe try a new burner then? My Samsung drive works perfectly burning at full speed on Verbatim DVD-R's.

Hello Maxconsole!

Wii serial: LEH2784xxxxx
Wii software: 4.2E
DVD-Drive chip: Blank
Conclusion. So the DVD-drive chip should be: GC2-D3-2
Mod-chip: WasabiDX

I installed Wasabi DX to my friend new Wii. After the installation, Wii reads still original games and i can get to the mod-chip menu with 3 eject press. But when i try to install Wasabi DX 1.2 or 2.0 Beta software, Wii doesn't read the disc.

I'm using latest ImgBurn and my DVD burner is Samsung SH-S203B with SB04 firmware. I first burned Wasabi DX image with 4x to Verbatim DVD+R and Wii didn't read it. Drive made clacking sound and then it showed black screen with message "An error has occurred. Press Eject Button and remove the disc, then turn the......". Then i burned it to Verbatim DVD-R disc, but it was same thing with it. Third try was, that i burned it with my laptop burner and with 2x speed to Verbatim DVD-R, but no go. Always same thing, weird sound and Wii stops reading fast.

I tried games that works great in my Wii, but in my friends = no go.

What could be wrong?

you have the new d3-2 drive, wasabi dx cant work on that one, you need an older dvd drive board.

blankSWFC
10-29-2009, 11:46 PM
you can get a replacement DVD motherboard (D2C chipset seems to be the cheepest one. I have that in mine. But you can use any, D2A, B, C, C2, E...) from ebay for about £18 (GBP) i think thats about $12 or so. You would need to solder 6 fairly large and very easy to solder, solder points (2 on one side, and 4 on the other).

Or get a replacement DVD Drive with a different chipset, if you don't want to attempt the solder job. Not sure on the cost of them.

Other than that, you are looking at the softmod route.
