going to get one or the other, but can't decide. am leaning toward flatmod, as i was told it boots a bit faster. oh and just bought the wii yesterday, so pretty sure it has a v3 drive.

Depends what you want to do.
If you want to boot from DVDs and without a PC its the drivekey.
If you dont mind having a PC connected and hosting the files then its a flatmod.
I personaly went for a drivekey as I dont want to rely on my PC.
Both are really easy to install :)

Flatmod doesn't need a pc. Thats flatmii. Personally I wouldn't get a drivekey to many problems. I would get a flatmod or wasabi dx.

Sorry, I got it completely wrong!
I personally havn't had any issues with the drivekey. After a quick look at the flatmod, it does the same thing and was cheaper, so assuming no one is having any issues, I would go with a cheapest.

think i would go with the flatmod seems to be the most compatible with all wiis at the moment drivekey has a few reported problems with some of the newer wiis. although i personally haven't experienced any of these problems yet.

dug a bit deeper and found that i could softmod it on the 3.4u firmware, so i did then ran the downgrader, and got the backups (wii) launching fine. GC launcher is not so cooperative though.

every chip have there problems , its not the drivekey that is the problem its its people selling somedrivekeys that were recalled ,it the same with all chips, flatmod ,wasabi dx and drivekey work well for most, but some drives are very picky and cause problems with some chips.

this is true and i agree with you, i was just saying from what i have been reading around various forums drivekey seems to have the most reported problems. however like you say some drivekeys were recalled and people still sell them there would be problems otherwise there would have been no need to recall.

The Drivekey that have been recalled should not of gone on sale in the first place, drivekey told every reseller not to ship there batch of drivekey, some people got hold of the faulty drivekeys and sold them, this is what is causing megga ****.
drivekey have now issued "Direct RMA for the faulty DriveKeys only from the faulty batch though
i have sold hundreds of drivekey and i have only had 3 returns and one of them i tested was a faulty cable, drivekey do seem to have probs with some drives though, earlier drive models seem fine, d2e with silver cables can be hit and miss.
