I do NOT have any modchips installed.
I do NOT have a freeloader.
I DO have the homebrew channel installed.
My Wii is a US NTSC model Firmware version 3.2U. I heard that 3.3 and above cause some problems with certain homebrew and WAD/DVD access so I don't want to upgrade past 3.2.
Ok, I am fairly out of the loop when it comes to Wii hacks.
The last time I read about these, I installed the homebrew channel and homebrew browser, this was sometime mid 2008.
A few days ago I got Madworld, and couldent figure out how to start it without updating, I tried several things, including manually extracting IOS53 and 55 from the DVD and installing them.
Finally I was told to install preolader and that worked.
Now, I have several questions to ask:

1. Is there anywhere I can read a guide about how to modify my hacks.ini to add more features or abilities?
2. Can I make my Wii region free for GC or Wii games this way? How?
3. Is there any way I can add a "Boot Wii/GC disk" option from the preloader menu?
4. Do I need a special drive to read my Wii disks on a PC or just special software? Can I read the filesystem on the disk this way or just dump an image? Would it be safer or easier to get the IOS WADS this way than through the Wii?
5. Is there any way to play the backups or modified versions (removing updates, replacing songs in Guitar Hero, etc) I make of my Wii disks without a modchip or the alpha version of the backup loader that the author quit on when it got leaked?
6. Is there any way to remove the copy protection from my saved data so I can back it up to SD card without corrupting the save to a point where the game will refuse to load it?
7. What exactly do these custom IOSs I hear people talking about do? Are they safe?
8. Is it safe to scan a new game disk I bought for any IOSes I do not have and install them to ensure compatibility? (WITHOUT installing new versions of the same old IOS that patch away hacks)
9. Is there any way I can check which IOSes and what versions of which one I have installed on my Wii? (I am not sure, but I think I don't have IOS38 installed, which I hear is an important one, and using wufe I coulden't find it on my MadWorld disk, even though I saw IOS 36, 37, 53, and 55 on the disk, along with many others).
10. I tried to use ftpii to see what IOS files were on a gamedisk, but even though I have DVDX and DVDX 3.4 installed, it could not mount the disk. In fact, if I tried to use ftpii, the Disk Channel itself could not read the disk until I ejected and reinserted the disk or rebooted the system. What am I doing wrong?
11. What is your opinion on SoftMii? After what I heard, I really do not want to install it, I heard many people tell me that its likely to brick my Wii and that its nothing more than preloader with a skin and other hacks installed.
12. If I were to get a modchip, which one would you recommend? Would I still need these hacks (other than the homebrew channel) if I got a chip? Would I still have to be careful about updating? What advantage would I have by installing a chip that I cannot have with software hacks?
