As expected, MS has issued its traditional no comment response in regards to a rumor that they are discontinuing the Xbox 360 Elite. What do you guys think, is it likely they are going to call it a day with the Elite or is it all just fabricated by the media?

The words "No Comment" can be taken as an admission.

"No Comment" is a common response to questions regarding "top secret" projects.

No comment... Microsoft is usually one to backlash at absurd comments. Oh well, the black Xbox 360 was pretty cool for a matte finished product.

Well if you remember right they said the elite wasn't going to be a permit selection. I remember hearing limited time only.

There were only a few differences from the So called Elite and standard machine, it was black, it had a 120 Gig hard drive, and i think a HDMI connector. (don't quote me on that last one). Big Deal Microsoft!!!!
It will NOT be missed by me.

They may as well drop it, it offers little that justify's the extra £60. The HDD is worth half that, and the colour while nicer than the dirty white arcade and premium is nothing that couldn't be offered as an additional colour option. Since the release of the 60gb premium, the Elite has gotten far less attractive, so unless they drastically increase the HDD size (tho can't really see what that would offer beyond more HDD install as the 120, 60 and even 20 are fine for all the other stuff), they may as well just get rid of it and leave it at the current, with or without hdd options.

As it currently stands, the elite is more or less a rip off (i got mine 18 months ago for £40 more than the premium, which wasn't bad then for 100GB and a HDMI lead), but then seemingly anything reguarding the larger HDD's for the 360 usually is. i may have no use for the extra HDD space, but the PS3 method in principle is by far superior when they stick to one SKU. I see no reasontthat if sony can give option to use your own HDD without affecting security, that MS can't do the same instead of offering us a console that has only a larger HDD for an inflated price, or the option to buy the larger HDD for an even more inflated price. The 360 may be cheaper, but it's a rip off if you need to increase the HDD or use wireless.

I would believe it. The economy is all the reason they need.

And your point is?

The original xbox had a short life span.
MS want the 360 to have a long run, a slim version is part of their plan to reach this goal.

well now lets see the xbox was released in 2001 it was discontinused in late 2006 so id say about 5 years now the ps2 brought out in 1999 the slim version was brought out in 2004 so yea ms 'might' have been able to make a slim original.

the xbox 360 i dont think should be put into a smaller case (it's case is small enough) for heating problems and stuff like that, that also was some of the causes for the rrod.

there has always been a slim playstation (sony playstation - PSone, Playstation 2 - playstation 2 slim, psp - psp slim and light - psp 300.
i dunno how sony are gonna shrink the ps3
