This seems like a trend that will continue with all future Xbox 360 releases. Developers have started to include the NXE update on new games such as HAWX and MLB: 2K9. According to Xbox Insider, the discs also have a new Wave 3 video partition which tries to combat piracy.

You're right, it doesn't have anything to do with anti-piracy.

The only reason it didn't work on stealth firmware was because ixtreme didn't allow the game to boot as it had an unrecognized video partition.

Probably because the NXE update is over 120 MB, it was put in this video partition.

NXE is required for the games I would assume, and they put the update on the disc. This would also be a way for banned consoles to get the NXE update correct?

It's a problem for MS to write in the NXE upodate in the current Wace 1 and Wave2 standards due to the fact that NXE is a much bigger update then anyone before.

The new Wave3 is not a anti-piracy thing it is just a chnge of the structure on 360 games.

Xtreme and iXtreme without stealth check will boot Wave3 games but iXtreme with stealthcheck will blockit cause it's a new format from prior to iXtreme 1.5.

iXtreme 1.51 is in the work with Wave3 support from c4e- Will be released for Hitachi and all the other drives shortly.

Not only is it old news, it's wrong news. Stealthed Ixtreme "custom" firmware as is simply couldn't predict that it would need to look at a 3rd wave video partition (not sure if that's the right terminology), so (currently) scene releases of H.A.W.X. and MLB2009 which have this 3rd video partition on the disc get blocked as a protection measure, because it thinks it not a stealth image. Ixtreme 1.51 is being worked on now, and will be released shortly to OK these games and any future games (I assume). the only thing on this 3rd partition is the NXE update because there's nowhere else to put it. It's not an anti-piracy measure. If you're going to report on such things at least do *some* research other than CTRL+C and CTRL+V.

Or you can just download (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/systemupdates.htm) the update from the xbox.com website and put it on a USB flash drive or burn it on a CD or DVD.

I have ixtreme 1.5 currently with the new nxe and i don't have any issues.

I have been shipping it to friend to update for me every time a new firmware comes out but I trying to learn how to flash the drive myself. Can I do so through an asus sata drive g2p laptop?

oh goodie, I only just got around to updating to 1.5 last month and now I have to open up the 360 again. i HATE those clips along the back... every time I get one unlatched, the one next to it re-latches shut. I wish they'd just used torx screws under the feet again like in the original xbox

The problem is not running games on the new NXE and iXtreme 1.5. The problem is H.A.W.K and MLB: 2K9 now have the NXE update on disc so people that didn't get it thru a download can still get it (Just like Wii games do)

Whats happening in a nut shell is the NXE was put in the video partition on the disc. This threw the CRC check that the iXtreme firmware does on all discs before allowing the Xbox to boot them. Because it does not match it blocks the game from running.

This was a safety measure put into iXtreme 1.5 to prevent un-stealthed games from actually running. Protecting the user from a possible ban. iXtreme 1.51 will add the new check to allow these games to run safely.

If you revert back to iXtreme 1.4 the games run just fine. Thats because 1.4 does not check this and allows anything to run.

NXE and IXtreme have nothing to do with being bad for the Xbox ... Xbox's die .. that's all. Nothing to do with the software that runs it.

I just got a new Xbox the other day and put iXtreme one last night ... have yet to put the cover back on yet.

I too hate those clips on the back ... even with the tool it's a pain to open.

Oh look, another bullshit "news article" on Maxconsole. You would think with a name like "Max Console", that the news posters would know anything...literally anything about consoles, yet they post bullshit like this, that has absolutely nothing to do with piracy, and does absolutely *nothing* to combat it in any way shape or form.

If he had posted the source (http://www.xboxinsider.net/upcoming-games-to-have-the-nxe-update-included-on-disc/) of this news, you'd see he just doesn't double check his sources, but plainly copies them.

Maaybe Zeus got his training at FOX-news. :p

anti piracy or not they sure picked the worst games, I would have pick more promising and blockbuster titles like resident evil5 and tekken 6.

You don't need to use just one of those games to update to the NXE. As a poster above said you can get it from their site .. put it on a USB thumb drive and it will install.

Also if a friend has it on his box take his HDD to your Xbox and turn it on. It will also update your system.

lol i agree on choosing crappy games.

pretty stupid tho, if anyone really wanted to play those games just flash back to an older fw then flash to the new 1.51 when it releases.

What I want to know with these new games is:

Are you forced to update to NXE, or is the NXE install bypassable? Will the games play without NXE installed (ie: video parition replacement).

If I had to assume, it would be that it's a forced upgrade and that the games won't work without it.

Grrr. I don't like NXE and I don't want NXE. Looks like I won't be getting any new games anymore. :(

if you dont have NXE already, then you're obviously not using xbl or the xbl marketplace (since it's a required update)... so why exactly do you care about nxe again? just set it to auto-boot games on startup and pow, you dont ever have to see it again

only reason I can come up with is that your console is banned and you use it for streaming divx, and you know you're not going to be able to get the divx update for nxe

FYI: there's a release of HAWX that some idiotic group made with the video partition replaced with an old version (hello xbl bans!), there's your easy to way find out if you're too lazy to hack up an iso yourself
