View Full Version : Rumor: Alternative official Xbox 360 controller on the way
Apparently, a member of the MS team suggested that MS will be producing a new 'advanced' version of the Xbox 360 controller. It is said to offer gamers an alternative choice, rather than replacing the original controller and feature an improved analog stick among other improvements.
Xbox360 controllerAt yesterday’s Gamefest event in Seattle, Microsoft’s product unit manager, Robert S. Walker suggested that they might be creating an advanced version of the Xbox360 controller. The plan is to make the controller a second choice for gamers, instead of replacing the original one.
The new controller would have an improved and more precise right analog stick for games requiring higher precision, like first person shooters. The current 360 controller does a decent job in FPS games, although improving controls for console shooters is always welcome.

They should improve the fucking D-pad !!!
Now that SFIV is out and the same rant about the D-pad is back, they should be aware it sucks...

I agree, trying to play SFIV with the xbox D-pad is a nightmare. They should replace it with a D-pad like the Snes had. Was really easy to pull off moves with that one.

Fo' sure, I loved the SNES pad for fighting games. Plus they took a licking and kept working. My roommate beat that controller to hell everytime I beat him in KI or MK3.

saturn style d-pad would be nice oh and remove that sandblasted plastic **** it wasn't good on the psp phat and feels nasty on the 360 controller, if more grip is needed add rubber instead.

Don't even joke about that. Keep the motion controls with Nintendo where it belongs.
better right stick would be off the hook, d-pad is secondary to me

The sega saturn pad is by far the pad needed for sf4,the king of 2d fighters as well to boot, the console that is :)

They have, the apple green pads have the improved dpad that works perfect for SF2, i have 2 and they work a treat (dragon punches and Zangief's spinning pile drive are very easy to do compared to the old pads). That said i have bought 2 of the rip off madcatz SF4 pads (got 2 for one so wasn't too bad) though they are a bit ont he large side and not a patch on the old saturn pads.
i would assume this new pad would already have the improved dpad as allegedly all newer pads are supposed to have it and not just the green ones (tho annoyingly only the green ones are a clear indicator that they have the new dpad as there is no way to see if the other pads have or havn't got it).

You mean like Dpads, analog nubs(Don't anyone dare compare the Intellivision controller or the 5200 controller to the N64 controller. For the love of God. No), shoulder buttons, and nearly every other gamepad innovation in the last twenty years(save analog triggers, that's sega's doing with the Saturn 3D Pad)?

Why does everyone clamor that the Saturn D-Pad is so great? I have 8 of these damn pads, and the D-Pad is **** compared to SNES style d-pad.
Round D-Pads = INSTANT FAIL
Not a single controller I have, that sports a round D-Pad type, works worth a damn. Too easy to hit directions you don't intend to.
Doesn't work on the 360, doesn't work on any of MS' Sidewinder pads, didn't work on the 3DO (I hate my pads), the Genesis or the Saturn. Praising the Saturn pad is nothing short of lunacy.
I think these same people, are the ones who play racing games with a d-pad. Use the damn analog stick!

I think instead of having us buy another controller, they should have an exchange program.

Yes, I may like the PS3 more than the 360 but, if MS makes a motion sensing 'mote, then things will start coming downhill and soon we'll see "Family friendly" games:(

This is truely an insightful, educational remark! Good thinking! :D Microsoft will never do it because it would cost them dearly BUT they should as almost all have an issue with their original controller's d-pad.

I hated the snes pad for street fighter. Using shoulder buttons for attacks was so wrong, not to mention having to do dpad moves and button presses with one hand. The megadrive 6 button pad was the best for me (even if it only had 1 shoulder button) followed by the Saturn pads. Both were the right size and had the proper 6 buttons on the front.
I have no idea why everyone decided to copy the snes with 4 buttons on the front, when even nintendo dropped it on the N64. Hopefully, next gen ms and sont see sense and give us 6 buttons on front while kepping the soulders and triggers.

I was thinking the same for the sixaxis pads, so we can all get proper DS3 pads. Would never happen tho, but that said, you can't be too critical of MS ont hat front as they have done it int he past with the origianl xbox, tho i don't think they will be willing to do that again.

I just wish for some more or less good 3rd party stuff... like PS3 and Wii has.
like the others said, the d-pad really sucks. Thats the reason why SF4 for PS3 is recommended, even if I got fast loading time via my xbox. On PS3 I connect the PS2 Arcade Board, or other stuff which fits well for those kind of games.

The Genesis pad wasn't to bad, except the 6-buttons ones did not come with the system and I had to go out and buy new ones just to play the newer games.
