A female gamer indicates that she was banned from Xbox LIVE as she identified herself as a lesbian in her profile. After appealing to MS, they gave her a response that other gamers found her sexual orientation offensive, hence the ban.

Teresa says that she was harassed by other players and later suspended from XBOX Live because she identified herself as a lesbian in her profile. When she appealed to Microsoft, she says they told her that other gamers found her sexual orientation "offensive."

I fully support the lesbian movement especially if its on video, but that information is not required and does not belong on an xbox live profile.

all sexual orientations are offensive to me, does that mean everyone gets kicked off xbox live?

seriously though, how is someone else's (who you don't even know and will never meet) sexual orientation offensive to someone?

Some people are really sensitive to that stuff. Just like some people are sensitive to race. I will never understand it...

Of course she shouldn't be banned for it, but I gotta agree that it shouldn't matter anyways, that doesn't belong in your gaming profile.

What I think is funny.. why did she feel the need to advertise it>>
Because she wanted attention.. nothing more.

Most REAL gay and bi women dont run around telling everyone they like girls. Th eyounger ones that crave ridiculous amounts of attention are the ones that tell everyone, advertise it everywhere and all that garbeg.
The mear fact that it said "im a lesbian" in her XBox live profile shows what kind of attention she wants. A drama filled life.
I mean, she didnt get enough of people houding her because her profile said she was gay??

Of course not, because they they wouldnt yell at her, say "hey baby" 200 times and ask her out over xbox live.

really pathetic and Sad

Sorry, Physiology classes lol

what it comes down do at its most basic level is a matter of neutraility. If i posted on my gamer tag that i'm straight i'd bet on it dollars to donuts i wouldnt be getting banned for offending people. Since when should a persons sexual preference become offensive? As far as a profile goes if people choose to state their sexual preference that's their business. Its an unoffensive word, it doesn't descriminate, its doesn't say anything negative to anyone else, unfortunatly we have to deal with the fact that in this day and age of all the wonderous things we can do, and have done as a race we've still got zealots holding us back from getting over the hump of the evolution curve.

The previous poster is almost as guilty as the person complaining, you're making a observation of a person when never having met her. Who made you the words foremost authority on social habits of lesbians?

Damn lesbos.

WE ALREADY WENT OVER THIS!

Your sexual orientation has no place on live. I don't go around with a profile that indicates that im a man that likes playing with women. why? cuz its not appropriate.

well i look at it like this, if she had something on her tag like "i eat *****" fair enough i can see a parent not wanting to expose their kids for it. An fair play to microsoft wanting to protect its users. But if it said something like "lesbian and proud", i've no problem with that i'm straight and proud, it doesnt offend my, and doesn't make me in the slightest bit bothered if my kids knew someone was a lesbian.

Dont misunderstand what i'm getting at here. I have no problem with microsoft enforcing these rules, as long as its the same for people of all sexual orientations

This is BS.

How can someone's sexuality offend someone, unless they are making comments about it? If all she does is put lesbian in her profile, that's her business. If this offends someone, no one has a constituional right not to be offended. This is free speech. Unless she actually comes onto another girl, they have no business banning her.

What if gamers check your profile and find that you are Muslim or some religion that they don't like and complain to MS that your choice of religion offends them? Should they ban you for that? If not, why ban a lesbian?

well... this is pretty bad in terms of discrimination. I think she should take it up with an attorney and sue Microsoft's asses. This is the 2000's. People need to know that it's not right to make fun of someone's sexual orientation. I'm not gay, but I'm saying that people need to stop being fucking retarded and leave people alone.

exactly, but dont forget the EULA is based upon law in a country that isnt exactly open armed when it comes to equal rights of homosexuals. Not that the poeple of the country are to blame many of them dont give a **** like the rest of the free world, for some reason it's incomprehensible to these people to just accept they're human, and their choice of life sytle differs because...we're not all the same.

The previous poster is almost as guilty as the person complaining, you're making a observation of a person when never having met her. Who made you the words foremost authority on social habits of lesbians?

Your an idiot. Im as bad as them.
Look.. take any even geral basic physiology class or behavior course...
Normal people that are gay, straight.. whatever... do not going around making it apoint that everyone knows what they are. Do you walk around town all day saying "IM STRAIGHT"?? Id hope not..

And those "bi" girls you know in school.. 95% of them are not BI.. they find a friend that is and to be cool and get attention they say they are too.
Its a primal subconsious attention whoring.

The fact that this girl made it a point in her GAMER PROFILE on a VIDEO GAME online service, made it public, then says she cant figure out why people got upset or harassed her..

ITs even comon sense... she wanted people to know what she was.. subconsciously ONLY FOR THE ATTENTION SHE WOULD GET FROM IT>

Do you think she put "IM A LESBIAN" up so people would leave her alone?? Or casualy ask her how it was? She knew that at least guys would bother her for it... because they bother every female that comes on.

Its basic "I need attention from someone because mommy and daddy never gave it to me" disorder lol

This girl needs to get over her self pity complex "Oh everyone feel sorry for me, they banned me because im gay, not retarded"

B**** had it coming.
Hell, I'd ban her fucking ass for not linking to a video supporting her claims.

Now excuse me, but I have an important amputee porn flick to attend to.

edit:

well... this is pretty bad in terms of discrimination. I think she should take it up with an attorney and sue Microsoft's asses. This is the 2000's. People need to know that it's not right to make fun of someone's sexual orientation. I'm not gay, but I'm saying that people need to stop being fucking retarded and leave people alone.

On a more serious note now: stop being a bunch of hippie pussies. She deserves a kick in the face for trying to stir up some attention alone. What makes "2000's" different? Do you claim there's some sort of "historical justice" going on? I remember Marx and Engels putting the exact same thought on paper and just look how fucking happy the ending was, hah!

I will ridicule everyone for whatever the hell I want and there's no goddamn thing you're gonna do about it.

Well... except suing me for hate-crime that is. But that's exactly the cancer which eats the modern society.

I rest my case with the most reasonable post in this thread:

I fully support the lesbian movement especially if its on video, but that information is not required and does not belong on an xbox live profile.

Go ahead bring it up with an attorney, they would just laugh in her face. The point is she just wanted attention. No one needs to wear a badge on there chest stating what orientation they prefer to be. Just because she wants to wear the badge, doesn't mean I want/have to read it. She's a lesbian, good for her, who cares, move on....

Exactly right. Straight people don't go into chat room all day saying I'm straight unless they're looking to pick up someone, or they are wearing it on their sleeve, flying it like a freak flag. Hey people, we don't want to know about your sexual orientation. :p

The dummy violated the ToS and then complained her account was suspended. Live is not Facebook. MS's response:

"As stated in the Xbox Live Terms of Use, a member may not create a gamertag or use text in other profile fields that include comments that look, sound like, stand for, hint at, abbreviate, or insinuate content of a potentially sexual nature. Profiles that do are asked to change the language and suspended until changes are made. In regards to sexual orientation, for gamertags or profiles we do not allow expression of any type of orientation, be that hetero or other. Players can, however, self identify in voice communication where context is more easily explained to all players involved.

"Harassment of any kind is not condoned and is taken very seriously; we strongly encourage Xbox Live members to immediately report inappropriate behavior through the compliant tools in the service so that it can be investigated and the appropriate action taken."

"The Xbox Live community grows daily, and we continue to explore methods and levels of enforcement to enhance the ways our members connect and have fun, while adhering to a code of conduct that encourages respect and keeps the service safe and fun for all our members."

Well I think the solution is quite simple:-

1) If she’s really pretty, then it’s ok.

2) If she’s a bit fugly then a ban is called for. :D
