A professional and commercial modder is offering all hardcore gamers the chance to get a 'real Xbox arcade' with his latest custom built arcade machine which has an Xbox 360 integrated into it. However, all this fun doesn't come cheap and will set you back $2,250.

Solomods introduces its custom-built personal arcade machine laden with an Xbox 360 console for serious arcade gamers. The Xbox 360 Arcade Cabinet is an old midway arcade cabinet retrofitted with an Xbox 360 gaming console inside it that offers a long, immersive gaming session. The arcade machine that costs you around $2,250 is especially designed for those hardcore arcade gamers looking for the ultimate way to play arcade-style fighting games in full HD. Unlike other upright arcade machines, this one allows you to smash your on-screen enemy’s face while lying on the bed with the help of motion-sensing Xbox 360 controller. Honestly, this ultimate arcade cabinet is the one that fuels the passions of a gaming geek.

Don't want to be the party pooper, but I've seen bunch these, my friend owns couple and got them for less than 1K USD each.

You see, in Mexico gaming consoles are taken and attached to pulsers(arcade coin hardware) and charge 1 peso per 6 minutes.

It's business, serious business, It all started with N64 back in the days, now they got XBOX with tons of games, 360 with FIFA 2009 MX Edition and I think I've seen couple of PS2 with HDLoader.

Old stuff, same concept, overpriced.

Even asking $1000 would be too much, they use 2nd hand arcade cabinets from the 90's with just a 27" CRT.

It really isnt as hard to build these as people let off.
But this price better include labor lol.

You could buy an old still working arcade cabinet from a lot of places for around $250 or less.

Then take the console {in my case it was a regular xbox with 500Gb hDD and xenium ice chip]

Gut the cabinet other then what you need such as joysticks, coin operators and all that.
Uses parts of the cabinet to mount your hardware different places. In my case I didnt need the dvd drive as I just FTP everything but for a 360 you would need to find a place to mount the dvd drive

Depending on how old the cabinet is or the controls it has you made need to improvise. Buying old Arcade joysticks like the nes and SNES ones help with extra buttons or you can get that crappy wana be cabinet setup from gamestop for $69.99 and strip it.

Extending all wires is the biggest pain.

But it is feasible with much less money then he spent.
I would say for a good enough fully working one you could get away with $700 including 360.

I built a MAME cabinet back in the day .... I came across an old Contra Cabinet (Unfortunately it was gutted) for free. I replaced the CRT with an old 27in TV I had lying around (This was before LCD and Plasma where remotely affordable by the average consumer)

Installing the buttons to the PC was easy. I connected everything with an I-Pac. (Not to sure if they are even around anymore) It had a trackball as well as a Arkanoid style spinner. It also had real arcade buttins and controllers. No fake crap :) (I bought all that from Happ Controls) TV output was from the Video Cards TV out.

Hooking a console to a Arcade style system would be very easy. You open a 360 controller and solder a wire from the 360 controller to the arcade button switch. Pretty simple really.

But I really don't see why one would want a 360 in an arcade cabinet. Somehow I don't think playing Halo or COD while standing at an arcade cab can be fun.

I believe it's aimed at people who play the XBLA (Xbox live arcade) games for example pac man, dig dug etc etc.

Dont waste your money on this ****. I have seen killer ones built for less than $700 and its as simple as a few wires srtipped and a j pac inserted. This guy is on crack. God help all the cool Midway cabinets being destroyed by this clown.

Christ, he mounted a fucking Hori Ex 2 in there.

2 grand my ass. He could atleast have the decency to add good parts in, not something that will fail in months.

I've built more than a dozen MAME machines for people. The problem with putting an XBOX in one is the controls. You cannot interface analog controls. So if you want to play a driving game.... good luck. The only thing I was thinking of doing is getting an Xbox racing wheel and mounting it in a Daytona USA cabinet I have.

Hey.. There is nothing wrong with CRT. In fact, CRT's are still the best type of display, if you're interested in video quality. No ghosting, best color reproduction, etc.. They just happen to be really big. My friend has a a 42" Sony HDTV that is CRT. You could probably live inside of it, but it looks fantastic without any of the nagging issues of flat screen tech (ghosting, viewing angles, burn-in, pixel grids, rainbow effects, etc..)

And I was about to defend what the guy did, thinking the screen was probably a very large, 1600x1200 (or better) computer monitor, hooked up to the console. But yeah, it's just a 27" standard-def TV. That's pretty weak.

WEAK

Also, I hope it's trivial to swap the Xbox360 out with a new one, for when it RRoD's inside that big wooden sauna he's stuck it in.
