Appararantly NRL Rugby League 2 for the PS2 has some advanced copy protection on it. According to a forum user 'it boots fine through the developer splash screens and will play a demo if left sitting idle, when you navigate to the Main Menu the selections below Instant Action are greyed out. You can press X and then triangle to return to the previous screen, however, there is currently no way to play a back-up of this title... whether you're using a Mod-Chip, Swap Magic, or even HD Advance'.

maybe this is a test for their PS3 code to see if the hardware can cypher out correct and patched bits, making backups boot fine, but lack any gameplay. Shall be interesting. Sony's coders seem pretty wacked out lately with their rootkits and endless patches for the PSP console.

yeah i'm guessing this is just a test for PS3 to show what kind of content backups will be able to play, seeing it as how Blu-Rays are supposed to be rewritable maybe they want to be able to put data on there (new levels, save games, extras, etc...) but don't want you to be able to put all backup data onto a disc and load that up.

kind of like a way to control what can be backed up and still usable, and what has to be original.

this title will sell HUGE in australia!

so i think it was a wise choice, remember how the original NRL game could not be copied to the hard drive?
That had alot of people tricked, until they realised it was just truncated file naming, lol, yet still 99% of my friends gave up on "backing it up".

i used to have a virtual pool style game for the PSX all in japanese, if you boot it from a backup disc or it detects a chip your balls just wouldnt roll in the pockets making the game completely unplayable!

Modchips are ruled legal down under. Guess sony decided to take the situation in their own hands to beat these modders.

My experience with rewritable CD-R is sketchy to say the least, if you use a disc a lot it can corrupt the data. Don't know if this will be the case with Bluray of course but anyway my feeling is Sony will want you to save to HD or memcards.

A test on PS2 would be showing their hand too early. Unless tehy're hoping to con people into showing their own hands to counter it (much like the easily cracked PSP 1.0, then later upgrades that made it harder and harder). I don't think Sony's that stupid. This is probably something else.

Getting your news from ps2nfo now zues? Hahaha.... Screw them and their tiny ass image covered with a logo 1/4th size of the thing. Scene kiddies know about this since the 8th....

oh - here's a better picture
