Hey guys, I'am having a few problems since updating to 3.4E firmware that I hope I can get some help with.
I didnt have the Homebrew Channel installed prior to the update but have done so today.
Because of the last update I couldnt use the iso method to install so had to use the TP hack way of installing the channel.
I then updated the Homebrew Channel to v1.01 once installed.
My problem is there are only 2 apps I need to run, Gecko for the regoin free option and wad manager to load and run my wads.
When I select either of them I get an error message saying not a valid Wii application and nothing works.
I have both in an apps folder on my sd card, I have my wads in a folder named wads on my sd card as well so everything is where it should be.
So the root directory on my sd card has apps, wads and private for game saves.
No other files.
My downloaded game saves arent recognised either, I have each one in a folder starting with R, 2 letters then for game name followed by a P for my region as I'am in Australia.
Sooo....has the last console firmware update stopped all this from working?
Both apps appear in the Homebrew Channel when it loads up my sd card but when I select either of them they get the error message.
I'am using Gecko OS107b but I'am not sure what version wad manager is.
I cant use the .dol versions because I didnt install using a rom so I use the HBC option.
I also have a Wiikey v2.
Are there updated version of both apps that will run with the new firmware or have I simply done something wrong?
I've tried searching for newer version but as yet no go.
So any help would be greatly appreciated.

your problem is the 3.4 part..

you HAVE to downgrade to 3.2 in order to install WADs. Also, make sure the apps are .dol and not .elf.

You can downgrade 2 ways:
with :Waninkoko's downgrader (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mmlamm4ommm)

or Tona's anyregion changer (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/AnyRegion_Changer)

I may also be downgrading soon(from 3.3), let me know which you choose and how it went.

Thanks for the reply mate.
This is sounding a bit deeper then I had hoped.
This is what I'am trying to achieve:
I just brought our Wii a week ago for my kids for Xmas.
I had it chipped with the Wiikey v2, did some research and learned about the Homebrew Channel.
I have the ntsc version of Mario Sluggers that I'd like to play on my Wii but having a pal console meant I have to find a way around the region change thing.
I thought my Wiikey would do the trick but everyone tells me no it wont.
Thats why I got the Homebrew Channel so I could use Gecko to play this one game.
I was told its the only way to do this.
Having 3.4 firmware has pretty much destroyed all the options I have read about on various posts and forums.
Is there anything or anyway I can play a ntsc game on a pal Wii without having to downgrade and risking turning my console into a brick?
I understand if the region zone, menu and firmware are all set to the same then a downgrade and temp. region change will work but with 3 days to Xmas I dont know if I can afford the risk if something goes wrong.
The wads dont bother me as that was just something extra I thought would have been nice to have.
I dont care if I cant get them to go or not.
But I'd like to be able to change my region without to much risk.
Thanks.

I have a wiikey v2 in my wii now and use Gecko OS through the homebrew channel to play Tatsunoko vs Capcom (japanese ntsc) and it works fine.
You need this version of gecko os:

Gecko OS 1.07b (For HBC V9 Beta) Go here: http://www.usbgecko.com/manual.htm
Scroll down a bit and download it. Dont get the Gecko OS 1.7b from the top left link on that page, it wont work. You need the 1.07b version.
Then put it in the apps folder on your sd card.
Now load up the homebrew channel, then gecko os.
Make sure to choose the right region options in the menu, then launch the game (from gecko's menu).

BTW i'm on 3.3E not 3.4 so i dont know if that makes a difference but it can't hurt to try.

Mate your a legend, I had 1.7 not 1.07 so now it works..Sluggers is a goer :)
It worked first pop.
I did have a muck around with wadmanager again, I only have the .dol file and in the Homebrew Channel it doesnt even see it now.
Theres no xml or png files with it though.
I had them with the .elf version but not this .dol version.
So I've downloaded v1.3 like 4 times now and they all only have the one .dol file and nothing else.
I know my first reply said it wont work but I'd like to at least give it a go and see what happens.
With my chip and Homebrew version maybe it will happen, probaly it wont.
but I'am happy about Sluggers and so will my kids, they love the Mario games.
I did get them Smash Bros. as well, managed to rip it ok to my hdd but for some reason my dual layer burner cant get it past the 53% mark so I gave up on it.
I was using Imgburn, Verbatim discs and burning at 4x so it should be all good.
Thats the next problem but down the track.
Thanks again for the help :)

1. open the iso in imgburn
2. go to Tools - Settings - Write - Layer Break and click User Specified. enter 2084960
3. burn at 2.4x speed - no faster - DL discs are fussy.

Should work after that, if not it could be a bad rip. Good luck!

Hey mate, I had tried to do Smash Bros. the way you said to do before both with and without the layer break but I did it at 4x.
I'am trying it now at 2.4x so see how it goes.
Is it a definite Wadmanager wont work on a 3.4E?
Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it :)

Footnote, copied Smash Bros. right through for the first time, tried with and without the layer break but still no go.
The game gets stuck on the loading screen just past the title screen.
Maybe my friidump image didnt work so well, not to worry.
I'll keep an eye out for a 3.4 wad installer, I'am sure someone will have one in mind down the track.

the problem is that Nintendo blocked the fake signing necessary to install channels.. and unless Waninkoko finds a way to unlock Nintendo's code!!! then it's not gonna happen.

Not a problem mate, wads would be good to have but not so sure I want to risk bricking my Wii to do it.
How safe are the downgrade options?
Waninkoko's site isnt in english so I cant read what is involved and how easy it is.

If I was to downgrade this is the one I would use.
Has anyone tried this and did it work well?
Is it as simple as putting it into the Homebrew Channel and selecting it from there and it does all the work?
Me thinks not but you never know :)

yep, works like a normal HB app, just follow the instructions on the screen..
and select YOUR OWN REGION! That is where the "dangerous" part comes in.....get that "question" right, and you're good.

Ta mate, being in Australia and not having seen the menu selection I'am guessing I would chose the European region being a PAL user as well.
So...if I downgraded to my same region which is what I want to do, can I still use Gecko to temporarily change my region to play NTSC games like I can now?
I have some NTSC games and would still like to play them if I can.
Downgrading might not be so bad afterall, I'll let the kids enjoy Xmas with the new present before I start tinkering :)
This link sounds a bit deep though, a bit more than just running one app: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=112945
Thanks for the help.
