Hey guys, we have brought a Wii for our kids for Xmas and have decided to backup the few games we could afford for safe keeping.
We invested in a WiiKey v2 as we were told its a good reliable chip.
The problem I'am having is in the copy process I'am sure as the chip seems to boot the game up just fine to the menu screens but once you hit the A button to actually execute the game after clicking all the menu options the game just freezes and the tv screen goes black.
None load up at all past this point in each game.
The chip was installed by a dealer so I'am confident that part is ok, I used Rawdump for the extraction process and then purchased the correct dvd rom drive to use with it.
Each iso is the correct size.
I'am also using Nero and burning at 4x, from what I have read I'am doing everything ok but something is certainly missing.
I have a PAL Wii if that matters, is it possible to recommend other software similar to Nero thta may be better suited?
I dont want links so please dont post them.
The games are the simple ones like Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy and a couple of others.
None are dual layer to my knowledge.
Need For Speed Undercover wont even load and asks for an update but the original doesnt so a bit lost with that one to.
Thanks for any help :)

What's your current firmware?
"wii" -> "settings" -> upper corner.

1. Nero works fine
2.rawdump only works on a compatible LG drive.
3. try running the updater for wiikey 2 then the config disc. get them from wiikey.cn

Hey guys thanks for the replies.
I tried everyones suggestions with mixed success.
I'am using Verbatim dvd-r discs that I forgot to mention before.
The firmware on the console is 3.3E.
I did go to the Wiikey site and got the uploader/config disc and ran it through its paces so my chip is now up to date.
I managed to find Imgburn and it gave me a better success rate than Nero did but a couple of games, mainly both Mario Galaxy and Kart, still give me the same initial problem.
They load a little further than before but still lock up and either freeze the screen at that part of the game or give me the black screen and thats it, all over.
You dont have to patch the iso's in anyway to make them work?
I havent tried to many games as I have 3 kids and to try and do all this when thier either a sleep or not around in near impossible :)
So I'am still stuck, anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I've only got a week to sort this out.
Thanks guys.

Could be a bad dump. Have you:
1. Checked that your dvd drive is compatible
2. Checked that there are no additional instructions by looking online.

I did go to the Wiikey site and got the uploader/config disc and ran it through its paces so my chip is now up to date.
after you ran the config disc and exited, the first disc to be played should have been an original game from your region code. This will then set the region code on the chip.
Did you do this?

The symptom you're giving is that of an incompatible disc playing on another region.
IE: Splinter Cell NTSC won't play on a PAL unit without Gecko Region Free/Freeloader etc.
Game inserts ok, shows in disc channel menu, select and get the bigger screen ok, hit start and the Wiimote loses connection and it just sits there.
So a couple of things to check:
1) Are they showing in the disc channel for selection and select ok?
2) Do they freeze at that point
3) Does the wiimote lose connection? (it's leds go off)
After that I'm going to assume here from what you've said that you definitely did back up your own discs and didn't try to get them from alternative sources.
The other thing to that is I assume you bought a normal Retail unit from a shop and not one from the internet that the discs were Silvers (usually can tell because the labelling doesn't match with the country it's from, most state NTSC on them and in Rawdump it will give strange characters instead of a disc name. Also normally come in plastic bags with the outer cover folded in half over the disc)
If you fire your disc in to Rawdump it does it state disc found, then getting seeds, then give the disc name? Or does it generate wierd characters?

Hey guys, yes I have a GDR8163B rom drive so no problems there.
However I didnt put an original game in after I ran the updater, I was testing to see if my backups worked so I used one of them.
So I'll give that a go.
The only 3 games not working now are Mario Kart and Galaxy plus Fifa 09.
Kart wont let me play one player mode, it freezes up, but lets me play time trial mode.
I havent tried the other modes as yet.
Plus sometimes the menu has icons missing.
Galaxy gets as far as Bowser talking to Princess Peach at the start before it just locks up.
Fifa 09 loads the title screen then instantly the black screen of death appears.
Maybe it is just a matter of running one of my originals after I use the updater disc.
Should I use the updater again, it wont update though, then put an original in after it reboots?
I've been to a few "sites" to look for any possible patches needed but havent found anything as yet.
Maybe ppf-omatic and the relevant patch if one exists might work?
As for a bad dump well yes possible I spose but all my iso's are 4.37gig like thier supposed to be.
Doesnt mean thier not corrupt though :)
The games do show up in the menu screen each time so no problem there.
And no the controllers led's dont go out at any point, thier on all the time.
I brought my console from Target so not to shonky there :)
When I put one of my originals in rawdump yes it saids finding seeds when I start the dump process and them comes up with the name of the game being dumped.
All my games are PAL so no NTSC as my console is PAL as well.
I think I read the Wiikey v2 can play a few NTSC games as well so if I did buy a US game down the track theres a chance it might work anyway.
But for now no I havent.
Imgburn made a huge difference so that was a step in the right direction.
Its just these last couple bugging me out now, has anyone else had problems with the PAL versions of these games?
Thanks again for the help :)

OK now all of those issues are eliminated it's beginning to sound like a media issue.
Personally, I use full Face printable Ritek G05 media and it's only failed on a couple of occasions. Those occasions have been 8x burns when time was a premium.
I've used Taiyo Yuden TY02 dyed normal silver faced discs too which were great. DShirt branded overprints get used by a friend with no issues so far.
Use IMGBurn, burn no higher than 4x and use good quality media.
Then we can try again :)

Thanks mate.
I use Verbatim discs as media as I was told they were the best to use.
I only ever burn games at 4x as anything higher seems to lean towards a fail.
My only problem is like I said before just with 3 games now.
I'll try the updater disc again even though I know it wont update then put an original in then try a copy thats not working and see what happens.
Thanks.
