My friend got a Memor32 card, formatted it, and installed the Memento 1.2e firmware on it. She initially tried playing KH Final Mix with the original disc. Obviously no go, as it has to be a patched ISO.
I used MagicISO to create a .iso file from the disc. Used the ISO Patcher included in the 1.2e FW ZIP file and it said the disc was patched - it gave this result very quickly though. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be virtually instantaneous or if it should actually take a few minutes to patch.
After patching I burned the patched ISO using MagicISO on Sony DVD-Rs rated for 16x, but burned at 1x to be safe. I selected track testing, burn proof and finalize disk.
The disk wouldn't work - the PS2 would spend some time spinning trying to load the disk but nothing happened.
I did some reading on various forums indicating that not all games were supported. I couldn't find a complete list of supported games (is there one?), but did find that Final Fantasy X-2 was supported. As I have this I repeated the same steps for X-2.
Again, it wouldn't work, would spin for a while and nothing happened.
I tested Memor32 w/ Memento to see if it was doing something. Booting with the original X-2 without the Memor32 plugged in was virtually instantaneous. With Memor32 plugged in, it took about 7 seconds before the boot screen launched, so clearly the Memor32 is doing something.
Some threads have suggested ESR, sometimes 8a, sometimes direct 9b. I've searched for both and the only relevant results I can turn up are forum threads recommending their use in the event that Memento doesn't work, but haven't found a site for downloading ESR, or even what it stands for.
Edit: The PS2 I was using was a 75001.
