All these problems I see with "Games not working" or "DRE's" or "Stuck on a black screen" have all been related to the softmodded backup loader, Gamma.

I'm getting a WiiKey 2 + WiiClip.
Can I expect better compatibility and reliability than if I softmodded?

you will get a lot better compatibility than soft modding thats for sure. you also get way faster loading times, the chip cannot be disabled and the games wont take up space on your sd card. so mod chips are better soft modding will never replace them. sooner or later nintendo are going to block soft mods it's going to happen it's only a matter of time so chip away :p

Chips don't need to be disabled, they're drive mods and can't be detected. Also, soft mods only support DVD-R back ups of Wii games. Chips support DVD+/-R and DLs as well as GCN games. You might have to wait a long time before you get that kind of compatibility in soft mods.

Hardware / software mod dependability all depends on console. In the case of the Wii, as everybody else had said, the chip is the way to go. If you aren't that great at soldering, I would recommend the WiiClip. They have it for pretty much any chip you can buy and makes your life a lot easier (no worrying about lifting solder pads or anything). The only other thing you might want to go along with your chip is an SD Gecko for some homebrew, but its not a must.

Also, might I recommend the D2C or D2Pro. I have had both chips (installed the wiikey on brother's wii), and I never had any of those problems with having to update for certain games like he did (mario kart, SSBB, etc) and still have not had to update.

i would say yes but chipping it would void your warranty

It would void it even if you use a Wii Clip?

Yes and yes, but only if you told them you had opened it.

lets face it, there isnt any warranty labels on a wii, if your nice and neat (and even if you not) about opening it, and remove any chip before sending it back, no ones gonna say anything................................

as long as your clean with opening and installing, as well as removing, your sorted.

:D

two penneth`s.............................modchips are always better than softmods.

so what just say you bought it off ebay and didnt know! they end up only charging you about $50 to fix it or $100 to replace it anyway.
