I have a bog standard Maxter 40GB HDD in my PS2 and recently upgrade from PS2 IE to MCBoot.

I was wondering whether there is a way of tricking my PS2 into thinking my HDD is official without a modchip and instead using MCBoot?

I want this mostly for the use of backing up my memorycards but I currently use it for HDLoader.

No there is no way for fmcb to make your hdd an Official Hdd like modchips can do.
I just use ulaunch.elf to back up the mc to a usb drive or my hdd. I have also used mcmanager.elf which backs them up to PS2 hdd.

if you use the hd utility disc. the hdd will show in the ps2 browser. it is just as easy to transfer the saves within ulaunchelf as it is to do the same through the ps2 browser. really though, are you willing to reformat your hdd?
