Why dont you just update the wii to allow you to play them. Ive got a yaosm 3.2 in mine works fine with Need for speed. Im running 3.4e firmware with HB channel installed.

updating will only affect homebrew users, so you should be fine if you don't use homebrew.
it won't affect people with modchips that won't be using homebrew.

sounds very noobish but what is homebrew exactly , i dont think i use it i have never used twighlight hacks or anything on my wii i simply got them modded 1 with d2pro9v3 and one with the original wiikey both systems are pal and on both systems i only use pal back ups so am i safe to update the wii firmware to the latest one.

when you say that it only effects homebrew , what do you mean ? sorry for being noobish :-(

homebrew are programs made 3rd party for the wii. Such as DVD players, emulators, and lots of utilities , like mii backups, games, wad installers, gc save extractors, ect...

you use the zelda twilight game and a hacked game save to install a homebrew channel on your Wii to boot all of the applications off of your SD card...

you can find out more here (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Main_Page) at the Wiibrew website

if you only want to play back up games, then your fine updating you system, but remember to never update using game discs of any other region than your own (this can cause a full system brick).

I sounds like you don't really want homebrew, so it is probably ok for you to update. :D

most apps will work, but with 3.4, Nintendo has the right to delete the apps, remover the Homebrew channel, or brick your wii!

Also, with the 3.4 you can not install custom channel VC/Wiiware backups, ect...

you do not need to update in order to play the game... you need to either use gecko to get around the update, use starfall to always block game updates, or, if it is a backup, us wui 1.1 to patch the iso and remove the update

i tried the wui 1.1 and it came up with 2 sections left and right i only ticked the right section and chose to block update but when i now load game it comes up with the game in the box instead of the update system symbol which is good as it has gotten further but when i press a to play thescreen opens up and here the proper sound for the game and full screen picture of need for speed ( all is good so far ) then when i click start i just get black screen ? any ideas as ive never had this before ? have i knackered my wii or did i not use wui 1.1 correctly ? also when i got black screen it wouldnt power off it ejected disc ok but no power off had to manually remove plug from wall , any help plz

your wii is alright, something wired with wiu though...

try Starfall and use the previous disc (not the wiu altered one)
you have to use the HBC...

you do not have to go through all of the Zelda crap either since you have 3.2 and a modchip, just use the ISO here (http://hbc.hackmii.com/download/)

sure kid, just update then... but you'll see when Nintendo bricks your wii cause it detects a modchip...

prso

i didnt know they could detect modchips , ive read that you only use starfall if you have a softmodded wii but mne is chipped so what else could i try ? wii brickblocker perhaps ?

ok.... if you update to 3.4, then you also are agreeing to Nintendo's new EULA which gives them the permission to update your Wii without your consent or warning. Nintendo has the capability to eventually detect modded Wii's and then CAN and LEGALLY brick them.

Since you have a modchip and since you have a 3.2 wii, you can install the perfectly safe Homebrew channel, you do not need to use it for anything else except installing starfall which will work around the update in the new games you want to play! you don't need to continue to use HB if you dont want, but if you install starfall, you'll be ok...

I've been reading all these threads and found this one quite helpful. But just wanted to check a few things myself.

I've managed to get a pre modded console in the UK running 3.3U ( i think if I remember correctly ) and its installed with a D2PRO 9 wire modchip.

I updated the mod chip last night using the new V1.7 and disabled all firmware updates via the mod chip util DVD. So now any discs i put into the console cannot update and brick the console correct ???

So whats the difference between 3.3U and 3.3E firmware please?

I understand I shouldnt update to 3.4 for the reasons talked about in pages1 and pages2 on this thread.

But if I want to use the home brew channel how can I with 3.3 because I understand it doesnt work with the ISO on 3.3 only <3.2

I dont need to run the Zelda hack do i ? surely not because it chip modded?

Many Thanks all

:)

glad you are finding my posts helpful... maybe I should mold them into a "howto" guide...

thanks for researching before posting, helps us out a lot...

the best way to run homebrew apps is through the Homebrew Channel, as I'm sure you know. Their are 2 way to install the HBC, one is the ISO and the other is with the all popular Zelda Twilight hack.

The only way to use the ISO is with a modchip AND a 3.2 firmware or less (P.S. don't worry about U or E, those are just regions) I was in your same situation. I had a chip and 3.3. You can not use the ISO on a 3.3 wii because it has a Trucha sign on it (moddified Wii ISO) which is blocked by 3.3. The only way YOU can use the ISO would be to downgrade to 3.3. But that isn't possible without the HBC, so it's a moot point. You solution is then to use the Z Twilight hack by either renting the game, or just using a backup. You would still need an SD card of course.
