View Full Version : Harmonic confirm there is an unannounced Rock Band 2 instrument
OXM UK is reporting that Rock Band 2 to get a new instrument. Guesses are that it could be something small like extra cymbals or the long-rumoured keyboard peripheral. <i>The confirmation came in the review guide that accompanied OXM UK's copy, which contains a note about the extra connection on the back of the updated drum kit. "The Rock Band 2 drum set has a second input on it (the bottom one with the orange ring) that is an expansion port," it reads. "It was stated in prior interviews/demos that this input was a jack for the second kick pedal, which is not the case." It goes on to say that Harmonix "has not revealed the fucntionality for this input," and it will "be announced at a later date, along with further details for double-kick functionality. Stay tuned!"</i>

Double Bass would be awesome, then throw in some As I Lay Dying and go to town.

The one with the orange ring is for the existing Bass Pedal. I think they meant the one BELOW the orange one (all black).
Well you can rule out Keyboard. I really don't think a keyboard will work if plugged into a headphone jack. It is possible to have a USB powered one though.
Who knows what it could be though.

LOL, that would be sick!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a cowbell!
Maybe they will add the Accordion too! :D

As far as i know the solution to the double kick is really simple.
Take a headphone jack splitter, attach both pedals to it and stick that in the single input and it works. But i can't test as i only have one pedal! Sounds a bit too easy to be true but there you go, apparently thats the solution.

a double bass pedal would be nice..
Only problem is that most of you that play rock band and have never even sat in front of a real drum set would never be able to keep up with the extra beat

Yeah where you been that was officially announced before RB2 was released.
The cymbals are from MadCatz. They are officially licensed. Harmonix does not make cymbals (... yet).
They plug into the 3 cymbal ports on the back of the drum set. The drum set has 5 jacks. Orange for the bass petal, blue yellow and green for the cymbals and a unknown black one.

Sounds like the never used ports on the guitars since GH2 to me. Given it is on thhe drums tho i'm expecting that it's not going to be a keyboard. It's likley as many have said, for either cymbals or a very handy for thrash, second base pedal masybe both. Tho if it's like the GH guitars it's somthing that won't ever be used (at least not to knowledge anyway).

I was going to buy Guitar Hero : World tour before Rock Band so I would only have to pay around £50 for Rock Band 2 but now it seems that it will cost me even more money because there's a new instrument.
Apparently,
You can't use Guitar Hero : World Tour instruments with Rock Band 2. Is this true ?

The work on RB1 so i would assume they work (not tried it yet on RB2). The only problem is that it seems less natural as in RB, green is cymbals, wheras with GH:WT drums yellow is a cymbal but is a drum (if that makes sense :D)
I can see the "new instument" being just a cymbal if ut is ever released, which hopefully will be compatible with the orange one on GH drums

Thank you.
I hope that the instruments do work.
And I agree. I think that's basically the only instrument that can be released unless there's some Nightwish songs being planned as downloadable content then they could bring out a keyboard but this seems unlikely.
