Microsoft recently conducted a "Xbox 360 Hispanic Holiday Entertainment Survey" which has found that Hispanics in the U.S. are more concerned than the general population about entertaining their families at home over the holidays. Microsoft asked Hispanics various questions which were aimed at proving that they really want a Xbox 360 for Christmas, but don't know it yet. Microsoft conducted a similar survey in the UK that revealed British people really want Xbox 360's for Christmas, but they didn't know it either. It is unclear how many of these surveys Microsoft will be conducting but the results will no doubt be groundbreaking as always.

Press Release:
Xbox 360 Survey Reveals Hispanics Want More Value and Gifts That Bring Their Family Together This Holiday Season

REDMOND, Wash., -- The weak economy is affecting how many people will celebrate the holidays. To better understand the current shopping attitudes of Hispanics in the U.S., Xbox 360 collaborated with Ipsos(1) to produce the Xbox 360 Hispanic Holiday Entertainment Survey. The findings reveal Hispanics in the U.S. are more concerned than the general population about entertaining their families at home over the holidays and other insights.

Some of the key findings include:

-- More Hispanics want a gift that brings their family together (89% vs. 64% of general population)

-- More Hispanics are looking for gifts that people can enjoy throughout the year (95% vs. 85% of general population)

-- More Hispanics are looking for affordable ways to entertain their family over the holidays (85% vs. 81% of general population)

-- Many more Hispanics would rather buy one gift for their whole family than spend money on lots of individual gifts (83 % vs. 52% of general population)

MOST HISPANICS WANT A GIFT THAT BRINGS THEIR FAMILY TOGETHER

When it comes to family, nine in 10 Hispanics (89%) agree they want to find a gift that brings everyone together at home this year. Parents of children under 18 at home are more likely to agree than those adults without children (93% vs. 82%).

HISPANICS ARE LOOKING FOR GIFTS THAT CAN BE ENJOYED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

In these tough economic times, an overwhelming 95% of Hispanics 18 years of age and older say they would like to give gifts that 'keep on giving' ... meaning they are enjoyed throughout the year ... regardless of their gender, income, length of residency in the U.S. or language of preference.

BEING ENTERTAINED AT HOME IS CRUCIAL TO FAMILY HAPPINESS

More than seven in 10 Hispanics surveyed (72%) agree that it is difficult to keep everyone in the family entertained over the holidays and are concerned about people getting bored. Those with children under 18 are even more likely to agree.

HALF OF HISPANICS PLAN TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

One in two Hispanic adults (49%) says they will probably play video games with family or friends over the holidays.

THE FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER . . .

Playing video games is the most popular way for 18-49 year olds to have fun over the holidays after watching television and movies, and 86 percent of young adults - nearly nine in 10 - are looking forward to receiving at least one video game this holiday season.(2)

A recent Microsoft and Harris Interactive Inc. study also found that 64 percent of parents would spend more time playing a video game if it was something that the entire family could do together.

This holiday, families can get together and play games such as the new singing game "Lips" and the movie games "You're in the Movies" and "Scene It? Box Office Smash". "Lips" is available in two versions: an all-English song version featuring 40 hits that include songs by Duran Duran, Maroon 5, Rihanna and Queen, and "Lips en Espanol" featuring 17 songs in Spanish by artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Belanova, Fanny Lu, La Factoria, Luis Miguel, Pimpinela and Selena.

XBOX 360: SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

From music to movies to TV shows to games, Xbox 360 is much more than the typical holiday present - and it is more affordable than ever with an estimated retail price (ERP) starting at only $199.99.(3)

The Xbox 360 Arcade Holiday Console comes with six free games, including "Sega Superstars Tennis" and five Xbox LIVE Arcade titles. The Xbox 360 console ($299.99 ERP) and the Xbox 360 Elite Holiday Console ($399.99 ERP) pair the consoles with smash hits at no additional cost.

With more than 200 games rated E (for everyone) and T (for teens) and the ability to watch 12,000 Netflix movies, TV shows and more,(4) Xbox 360 offers something for everyone. After the holidays are over, Xbox 360 is one gift that won't collect dust.

Press Release:
CREDIT CRUNCH MEANS MORE QUALITY FAMILY TIME THIS CHRISTMAS
New research reveals cuts in Christmas spending will lead more families to spend time together over the Festive Season

London, UK — 26th November, 2008— British families are set to spend more quality time together than in the last ten years this Christmas, as the economic downturn drives more families to stay at home and enjoy entertainment together.

New research by Xbox reveals that amongst the doom and gloom of the economic downturn, a cut in spending means over a third more British families will be sitting down to enjoy Christmas Lunch together than at any other time in the noughties.

Mums and dads are instead spending a fraction of the money on one piece home entertainment the whole family can enjoy together at Christmas and beyond - leading to even more shared experiences that individual gifts do not provide.

According to the survey, which polled over 1,000 people, the average UK household is not just looking for any type of entertainment. This Christmas, shoppers are being very specific that the entertainment they buy must be suitable for all members for the family – with films, music and digital entertainment at front of mind for bargain-hunting parents.

"There's a wealth of psychological evidence that families benefit from bonding by sharing common interests and fun together." Says Cambridge don, Dr Brendan Burchell, a specialist in Psychology and Economics.
"With many families experiencing financial worries this Christmas, it's important that families find affordable ways of entertaining themselves, which will often mean playing at home rather than more expensive trips out."

KEY FINDINGS

• Just under half (42%) will be looking for one gift that all the family can enjoy rather than individual gifts
• 72% are hunting for gifts that keep on giving throughout the year
• 42% of people will be buying fewer gifts this year, so will be buying gifts that are extra special
• 49% of those surveyed want to find a gift that will bring the whole family together

HERE’S WHAT WE FOUND OUT…

BRITISH FAMILIES TO STAY HOME DURING THE FESTIVE PERIOD

One in three people surveyed anticipate spending the festive season at home to save money this year. This suggests that families may spend a large part of their holiday season in the living room, looking for ways to be entertained economically. This year, the home looks set to be the destination for holiday entertainment.

BEING ENTERTAINED AT HOME IS CRUCIAL TO FAMILY HAPPINESS

With the purse strings tightening, 45% of people are looking for affordable ways to entertain the family over Christmas. In general, people are looking for something that doesn’t cost too much and still entertains the wide variety of relatives and holiday house guests.

To help put a smile on the faces of family members, just under a third of adults are hunting out gifts this year that can entertain the whole brood.

With 36% of people opting to stay in this Christmas, the survey suggests half of the population will be looking for ways to entertain the family. Time will be split amongst watching movies, playing board games and videogames.

“Gifts that the whole family can enjoy, and which negate the need for expensive family outings to have fun, are what shoppers are looking for this year. 42% of those asked want to find gifts that bring the family together, with 72% of them wanting to find presents that “keep on giving” throughout the year, ” said Ray Martin, YouGov

CONSOLES AT CHRISTMAS

Home entertainment devices and systems are experiencing robust Christmas sales, as savvy shoppers see them as cost-effective ways to entertain the whole family. Recent news stories have suggested that this could be the biggest Christmas yet in terms of sales, showing that the research undertaken outlines a common trend with families opting for gifts that all the family can enjoy in comfort of their home that provides value throughout the year.

“In tough economic times, home entertainment products traditionally do well, as consumers tend to want to stay in and save money,” said Martin Olausson, Director of Digital Media Research at Strategy Analytics. “Gaming and entertainment consoles like the Xbox 360 are seen as good value, given they can entertain the whole household through Christmas and beyond.”

“These trends show that providing both a broad experience and value to consumers with Xbox 360 is in line with consumer sentiment. To date, we have sold 7 million consoles in Europe and recently enjoyed our biggest sales week ever. Our trend research shows that families are looking for gifts that keep on giving throughout the year” said Neil Thompson. At an entry-level ERP of £129.99, Xbox 360 offers an amazing experience for the whole family, so with the constant rise in other entertainment based activities such as going to the cinema, concerts and football games, it’s clear Xbox 360 offers great entertainment value for families”

So funny!

And which Hyspanics is he talking about? Mexico, Spain, South America?

"You KNOW you want one... You just don't know it yet". Gotta love MS telling you what your opinions are, you know... cause what hispanic person would ever want a PS3 instead. "Many more Hispanics would rather buy one gift for their whole family than spend money on lots of individual gifts", what does MS think that Mexicans can't buy something until it has been on the market for 3 years and had its price cut in half? Or maybe it's cause Beaners have 9 kids on average and need a 360 to keep them entertained? This whole survey seems severely racist to me.

sounds more like they wanted a wii or ps2 than a 360, lets face it the 360 isnt exactly blessed with much in the way of "family entertainment".

no no it was an epic fail! im a black male and there are two ps3's in my house, BOTH payed for legitimately in case he wanted to be an idiot that little bit more.

No doubt with drug money I'm sure.

How are you not banned yet?
Your racist comments are completely out of line.
Why use a persons skin colour against him and stereotype because this.
Either go to another forum or calm down with the racism.

You may be a model upstanding citizen but I think even you would admit that you are the exception and not the rule. Why else would you even include a clearly open-ended statement like "not all black people sell drugs for a living" or feel it necessary to come on and prove you are such a model person. It doesn't take every one to create a stereotype, only most of you.

And I know my original statement was wrong, a black man can clearly afford to buy a 360 or PS3 or whatever and it doesn't necessarily take drug money. As long as someone hits you up on the 1st of the month you can take your welfare checks or the money the states pay to support your baby's momma's before you blow it on weed, alcohol, games of craps or dice or whatever it is you play, or any combination of those three.

And for the fools that say I should be banned, suck it. Maxconsole posted an article clearly insinuating that race had something to do with this issue, which it does. However this article has nothing more to do with gaming than this entire thread does.

Anyone that has any more to say find me on Live and I'll blow the same **** in your ear that I do here. And maybe I'll even run up in you in a game of Fifa.

You got the balls to say this kind of **** in a thread and then say your going to report ME? I wasn't trying to be racist, I was illustrating the fact that I felt MS was being racist if you read between the lines, sorry if I ACTUALLY offended someone. But YOU need to go back and read your own posts before you dare to call ANYONE a racist! Go ahead and report me but I have news for you, if a comment like this upsets you then you'd have to report AT LEAST one person per thread on Maconsole.

Why don't you go spout some of that bigot stuff in North Highlands, Harlem, Compton, South Central, etc. and see what happens instead of hiding behind the internet. You'd be gang raped, robbed, shanked, shot and then thrown in a gutter. BTW el username, I have never been threatened or banned by a moderator.

And I believe them 9% of the time .. but that is when I'm 99% drunk on Jack Daniels 80 proof (aka 40% alcohol). Which is about 20% of the week. BTW sales tax where I live is 5% ... in case you where wondering :D

I did report him, that conduct is uncalled for. As for you being back from your ban I hope you have learned your lesson from your racist comments. While racism might have a place and be tolerated in the real world it has no place here in a gaming forum.

These surveys just point to buying a wii as nothing about the 360 is family friendly at all. And I take the results as suiting buying a wii over the other 2.
