MS: Xbox 360 has real system sellers, PS3 and Wii DON'T!

Microsoft's David Gosen has made a startling claim that the Xbox 360 is the only platform to have REAL system sellers in the shape of Gears of War 2, Fable II and more. He added that the other two platforms do not have real system sellers such as those mentioned.


The UK is obviously going well, but how are you doing across Europe?
CL: In Italy, we were double PS3’s sales last week. In France and Germany we are at or better than PS3 consistently now. We dominate in Russia and the Nordic countries. And in Spain – a traditional Sorony stronghold – we’re now outselling PS3. It bodes incredibly well f our Christmas prospects.

DG: Spain is real a swing state. People are voting with their Euros and Pesetas to say which is the console of choice between us and PS3. But we’re just at the beginning. We have real system sellers: Gears 2, Fable II and many more. The other two platforms don’t have that. We’re going to reinforce that with Lips, with You’re In The Movies and the brilliant third-party products on a system that it’s proven to be easier to develop for than the others.

Oh Wow... You can say it maybe has more, but the other two have quite a few exclusive system sellers. IMO, Fable II and Gears of War 2 are hardly system sellers. They are "SEQUELS", a huge majority of fans of those two games more than likely already own or plan on purchasing a 360 already.

I can honestly say without a doubt, if it weren't for Metal Gear Solid 4 I would have never even purchased a PS3. If it weren't for Zelda : TP and SSB : Brawl, I would have never gotten a Wii either.

No matter what way you look at it, the games "ARE" the system seller. What do you suppose sold those other consoles?....... :(

i bought a ps3 because i just want it sad thing is they dont have any real system sellers. there is not one game i have to have for it. the 3rd party games is what i like the best so why not play it on the 360 all games if not true 1080p at least up scan to it and do look better. as far as wii goes nintendo fans will buy it for mario zelda at any time im real tried of the same old stuff the wii just looks bad next to the 360 and ps3 graphic wise. but in the end im glad i own all three i just play with my 360 a lot more

In later news, it turns out everyone always backs the system they make. Who knew? 360 has Gears2, Fable, Halo3. Wii has Mario Galaxy, Zelda Twilight Princess, Wii Fit (uggh). PS3 has Motorstorm PR, Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet. I support PS3 all the way, but why can't people just accept that you're getting lots of fun with EVERY console?

Software-wise, the only games that tempt me with the Xbox360 are Gears of War 2.. Actually, only Gears of War 2 plus some XBLA titles. But in terms of retail titles, GoW2 is the only one that I would need a 360 for. Everything else I want is multiplat either with the PS3, the PC, or both. I have zero interest in Fable, which from all the reviews I've read and seen sounds like a dragging, miserable game.

Mind you, I'm not saying that the PS3 has a ton of games that would make me want to buy it (if I didn't have it). Although, of late, I'm more impressed with the PS3 exclusives. Not to say the 360 isn't getting some good titles, but since I have a capable gaming PC, if they're 360+PC, they're not "360 exclusives" in my book.

I think it's fair to say MS should feel proud they are shifting lots of S/W if not as much H/W.
Set aside "system sellers" they have 4/10 games in the top 10. Nintendo have 5 but that includes Wii Play, Wii Fit and Wii Sports. These are IMHO H/W items with a free bit of s/w bolted on.... maybe Wii Fit can claim to be S/W.... it's hard to draw a distinction.
The PS3 having 1 entry... the mighty COD WAW is pretty poor. LBP dropped off the radar. No way could that be deemed a system seller IMHO. It's not even in the top 20 games as far as I can see.

Gears 2 is not really a system seller, since the people who are going to buy it likely already have Gears 1 which means they already have a 360. Unless it's PC gamers buying it (and believing Cliffy B when he says Gears 2 won't come to PC).

I'm pretty sure the game WILL come to PC, in spite of what Epic says. They were just paid to shut up about it. There's no way they're going to pass on a million unit sales for PC which are practically free, since porting it won't be hard at all.

As for Lips and You're in the Movies, don't kid yourself. The people who would be interested in this kind of game probably have a Ps2 already with singstar and eyetoy. No one's going to buy a 360 just for those.

The problem with this statement is that it seems to put to much focus on these so called system sellers. If the wii has none or the ps3 then how have the wii sold more than the 360 and the ps3 is not exactly struggling for console sales either.

He listed the two out of three exclusives... and Fable 2 wasn't even a system seller. It was Gears of War 2 and Tales of Vesperia.

I recently bought an Xbox to play Fable II. And a few days ago I bought Gears 2 as well. So for me especially Fable II is a system seller.

The PS3 doesn't have anything fresh to me exept for Resistance, Motorstorm and Uncharted. Most other "sellers" are just new versions of the once for PS2.

Remember that the last two generations were ruled by PSX/PSOne & PS2/PSTwo? Which means that all those games has been played so much that it makes me wanna puke. That all those games have been remakes for the PSP just makes me nauseous too.

I'm not saying that God of War, Killzone, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Tekken etc. are bad games. It's just that I've played them all on the PS2.

Fable and Halo aren't new and fresh games either, but since the old Xbox never was very popular in Europe, those games are new to me.

Don't forget that Sony also competes with themselves by still selling the PS2 with Singstar, Guitar Hero etc.

I also bought a Wii for much the same reason. I haven't owned a Nintendo system besides the GameBoy since the NES.

Well it seems that you cant buy a PS3 now without a game included, whether it be Uncharted, Motorstorm, MGS4, RC, R2 I've lost count of the amount of different bundles released.

Wii comes with Wii Sports which anyone will tell you is a huge reason people get the system. As simple of a game as it is, people love the bowling and tennis.

Every company will pack in a game or two now to entice the people who were sitting on the fence, it's just business, but there are games that when released will cause a spike in hardware sales.

Easy...it doesn't have a controller you can wiggle. I don't know anyone duped into buying a 360 or PS3 but I know plenty that were convinced that the Wii was going to give them or their kids a "workout" and make them get off the couch. The latest is Wii Fit, never mind that you can play it with your ass cheeks while sitting on it, the commercials make it look like it "requires" strenuous activity so the general public eats it up thinking they are doing their part in picking the "healthy game console".

No one outside of we the "hardcore" care about the specs, my parents (both in their 60's) wouldn't know a mhz from a hertz rent a car, but they know that Wii bowling can be played alot like real bowling so they have one.
