Press Release:
Lionhead Studios and Microsoft Game Studios Announce First Fable II Premium Downloadable Content

“Fable II” adventures continue with downloadable content and free pack to release on Dec. 12, 2008

The epic journey begun in “Fable II,” the fastest selling RPG on Xbox 360, is not over. Starting mid-December, 2008, fans will be summoned back into Albion’s service with the release of the Knothole Island downloadable content pack. The remote island of Knothole is dying: its golden sands and lush vegetation are covered with snow, its people freezing, its treasures buried. Only a hero can face the trials of the three shrines to bring back the sunshine.

Following its release on Xbox 360 on Oct. 21, more than 1.5 million units of “Fable II” flew off store shelves worldwide in the first two weeks, making it the most popular game, across all platforms, in the U.S. in October. With the release of the first “Fable II” downloadable content, available exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points, gamers will be invited to set sail for Knothole Island, where new quests, wondrous items and bizarre characters await.

Also in mid-December, fans everywhere will be able to enhance their “Fable II” experience with the release of a free “Fable II” downloadable pack exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. To engage in co-op gameplay with a player who has already downloaded the Knothole Island content, gamers will need to download the free pack. Both co-op players must download the Knothole Island (Premium) pack in order to play new quests and enjoy the complete Knothole Island co-op experience.

Free and premium downloaders will receive a show of gifts, including Knight’s Boots, Assassins Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book and more. Players will also be able to check their standing in over 50 new Leaderboards on Lionhead.com.

As an additional treat for “Fable II” fans, Lionhead Studios and Microsoft Game Studios have created an all-new Albion dashboard theme in celebration of the launch of the New Xbox Experience. Fans who want to show off their “Fable II” pride can head over to Xbox LIVE Marketplace to download the Albion theme, available now for 250 Microsoft points.

“Fable II” is exclusively available on Xbox 360 and is rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB. Please visit: www.xbox.com/fable2 or www.lionhead.com/fable2 for more information.Yeah

Alright....I'm definitely buying this, love Fable 2, and it's allot more fun after installing it on the HDD, as it illinates allot of the pop-up and slowdown issues.

250 points for a theme is a bit too much for my liking specially when you can pick up some games for 400 points.

Damn these services making you pay extra for content that should have been included in the game. This is a month after release and they ALREADY have content to add in? and at $10 that is a little pricey when the game is selling for $50 in lost of places.

Well, it's a nice way to make people pay more for their games without them complaining too much.

Asking $80 bucks for a game would guarantee its low sales. But selling it at "regular price" and then charging for each additionnal content pack and features seems alright with most gamers. (In the end, they pay the same outrageous price, but somehow this makes it easier to swallow, it seems).

This is the same thing with "episodic" games. Games distributed in episodic content for a small fee are nice, but when added togheter, all episodes often end up costing the same price or more as a full retail release. Again, an illusion, a scheme to make people think a game is cheap when it's the same thing as any other full priced game. But instead of $60, it's "6 easy payments of 10$ - isn't that wonderful?"

The art of making people pay for content that should've been in the game in the first place is a new form of art more and more predominant in modern games.

Why anyone would pay 250 for a theme is beyond me, I wouldn't even spend that much time in my dashboard to appreciate it.

At least it is content that is actually "extra" (meaning not already on the disc). It sickens me when they "offer" the content you already paid for that is physically on the disc at a premium price to unlock it.

And this is optional. If you don't feel like spending $10 for it, you don't have to.

But man, that is what I am saying. How do you know it wasn't held out of the disc specifically just so they COULD charge for it? I can just see that greedy little swine Peter Molyneux rubbing his hands together in a sickening sneer laughing maniacally to just that idea.

"We're giving them too damn much content I tell you, too damn much content!"

I see what your saying but the game is pretty big and seems to be complete. It doesn't feel like anything was missing.

If you go to a time BEFORE DLC chances are this content STILL woudn't be in the game.

To those complaining about the theme price it is for the NEW premium themes. A little more than a background (but still not worth it IMO). They redo the friends section too.

Take a look HERE (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=342627) They deffintally look better than a background. Be cool if they added avatar clothing to go along with the themes too ..

i would have to disagree with you there.

i felt the ending was poor and tacked on. like there was supposed to be a larger confrontation at the end but they didnt have time so they just threw in a bunch of branched path voice acting to make it feel like it was complete. it came off half done to me.

but overall the game did feel more complete than the original fable did on xbox 1 (not lost chapters, as that was the way the game was MEANT to be but again it was rushed out the door missing an entire sectino of the game).

I really don't understand the DLC complaints. Most of the addons I have seen so far are things that had nothing to do with the given games main story. I like the idea of things that expand a game and give it more playabilty. Folks act like stuff that is in the DLC would have been just shoehorned into the game if DLC didnt exist. The most likely scenario is that the stuff just woulnt exist at all. If a game was shortened for DLC or announced features were cut for DLC that would be a different story, but as is it seems more are happy for it than not. The beauty of DLC is that you dont have to buy it if you dont want to.
