Microsoft's VP of interactive entertainment business for EMEA, Chris Lewis, has announced that the Xbox 360 has already surpassed the 25 million installed base of the original Xbox. "We’ve been blown away by the appetite of people to consumer digital entertainment experiences." he said.


“We’re at a price point that is uniquely placed – not least of which because we’re in somewhat of a challenging economic time. Ever since we dropped the price seven weeks ago, we’ve outstripped PS3 on a weekly run rate in all the territories we care about in EMEA – specifically the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Russia.”

That's a real shame, I prefer the Original Xbox to the 360. The hardware was much better in terms of reliability and it didn't feel cheap at all. There are more games on Xbox which appeal more to me than there is on 360.

Anyway, I'll congratulate Microsoft on this milestone.

Anyway MS did a much better job this time arround, at least in sales :)

Looks like the Xbox360 is definitely doing better, and its curve has been ahead of the first Xbox since after its first year of release. But it's not blowing it out of the water.

That said, I'm sure its competitor could be doing a bit better:

There may be a spike in the wings right now for the PS3 with the holiday season, since it looks like the PS2 may have been spiking a bit earlier due to an October release (plus an early, halfyear headstart in Japan). Oh wait, sorry...economic downturn!

Same here. Also one of those Xbox original owners. I loved that console, this 360 is another story. Surely the first console could have went a hell of a lot longer.

yup if ms learns anything they will support the 360 well into the 720's/xbox 3's life, that and make the next systems hardware much more reliable and keep bringing good games to the console.

anyway right now 360 arcade will continue to sell alot being the cheapest of all consoles.

really no way ps3 can compete now with only a lone 400 dollor sku.

sony is so full of themselves they think people would rather spend money on ps3 than go on vacations ? lmao.

I wouldn't say that overall the 360 is the worst console ever, but it certainly is the least reliable. I like the dash (first and NXE) and all the tons of features however the hardware design is shite, no doubt about it. It's loud, unreliable, and has a power brick the size of a real brick.

That said, the game library is top notch but damn it is hard to overlook the shite hardware. If the 360 was as solidly built as the original Xbox it could have been the greatest console since the SNES.

Now that's funny! The S Controller is much better than the 360 controller too. I may just buy the Original Xbox again after my brother sold his modded one damn it!

While consumers having thier 360s RRoD'd, sending them back to Microsoft for repair; this problem has costed Microsoft a lot of money. They have had to re-produce a new risk assessment, cost of quality, etc. and of course re-produce 360s with new changes.

In conclusion, the milestone what Microsoft mentioned is not even accurate.

I am still on a launch 360....3 year expired for me today...but who cares at this point I want an HDMI one anyway but wont replace it until it dies. I may end up giving this one to my kids and getting a new one for myself soon though.

I have been actually thinking about buying an original Xbox for myself, they are just so cheap right now. I think you can get one for like $50 at EB.

I still play my modded almost daily and have a Virgin HALO edition xbox that I use as well. I love that system.

10? Don't be a retard. There is no way you had 9 defective consoles and if you did you are misdiagnosing the problems. And even THEN you are retarded for continuing to stick with it after 9 defective consoles. Most people would have learned from their experiences before 5 let alone 10. If you had 9 defective consoles you need to seriously step back and ask WTF YOU are doing wrong.
