View Full Version : New Avatar clothing theme packs to be free to start with
The Xbox Germany product manager has stated that more Avatar costumes will be available for FREE in the coming weeks. So that's some good news for Xbox 360 owners, although the 'free policy' might change come Spring. Stay tuned.

Xbox Germany product manager Boris Schneider-Johne confirms on his blog:
"More costumes will be made available for free in the next weeks. What's going to happen as of spring is yet to be announced. If you spot Avatars that wear clothes not yet available in the Avatar Editor, those belong to beta testers who were allowed to test ALL the new clothes beforehand (for instance my chic Xbox Jersey)."

My guess is they will stay free until Sony starts charging for outfits for your Home avatar.

Where are you guy's memory? Dress is the premium service and was reported on this site.
Sorry but we knew about this already.

Just spreading the love. The Wii has gotten a lot of flack on these boards for being kiddie, so turn about should be fair game.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) Sony announced it intention for users to be able to buy clothes, furnature and accessories back in "07 when Home was announced. Part of the idea was (and I assume still is) to allow advertising partners such as Nike to create "stores" where you can buy branded clothes for your avatar. Why someone would go to virtual Ikea to buy a virtual couch I have no idea...but if second life is proof I guess there is a market...of course its still kind of unproven, in Second Life you are given a certain amount of "money" in the game just for logging in on a regular basis, so throwing fake money at stuff when it was given to you free wasnt a big deal (at least it was that way a couple years ago, I havent been on it in a long long time) the question is will people buy virtual stuff it takes real money to do so. Perhaps they could tie it to a system where you could buy real stuff and get a "virtual" one with it, IMHO that has a better chance at success.

I just want a Cog suit for my avatar. I like the NXE a lot other than the gay arse avatars.

A trenchcoat would be a nice addition.
I hope there is a pack coming out. The clothes that are available now are terrible.

Did you notice this article was talking about 360's avatars, not Home? MS is going to charge for avatar add-ons later down the line, just like Sony's premium items. They are going to do the same things. I don't even know why Home was brought up in this topic.

Did you notice that the posts above me were talking about hoping home stays free for clothes so that MS would as well..I was simply stating that Sony has already said they would charge so they could expect MS to do the same. As for why it was brought up to start with, hmm lets see both feature avatars you can play dress up with...kinda puts them in a situation to be compared dont you think??

What I was saying was can't it be just about 360 instead of bringing sony into the picture. I know what you were saying. I wasn't really directing anything towards you.

Maybe they will have some decent game related stuff on the OXM discs or have stuff unlocked from certain achievements in games.
Not planning on buying anything if they are selling them but getting a spartan outfit or maybe a cog suit for some of the harder achievements in games would be nice. Or it could be another thing that can be thrown into collector edition sets.
