View Full Version : Users experience HDMI sound loss after installing NXE
Xbox 360 owners who have their systems connected to their TV using a HDMI cable have lost all sound after installing the New Xbox Experience. They have found out a temoprary fix, but it must be carried out every time the system is turned on: 1. Turn off the Xbox 360. 2. Remove the hard drive. 3. Turn on the Xbox 360. 4. When the Dashboard loads, put the hard drive back.

What have we become!?
Ok this is totally unacceptable. Didnt the xbox people check this out to see if there would be some kinda error like this?
And why the hell are poeple having problems with an upgrade that is supposed to be on the same level as the upgrade form black and white to colour TV?
I myself didn't have any problems with NXE but I'm real sad to see other people have problems.

Without intent to create a flamewar, just pointing out how people criticized the PS3 for the firmware problems sometimes. Now its on you.
Up to date, the only company that really delivers unbuged updates is Nintendo, yet again they don't have much to deliver to.

i dont see how that achieves it when turning it on with the hdd plugged in doesnt. the xbox resets when a hdd is connected anyway so its like turning it on with it already attached

Considering the 360 uses a SATA HDD and SATA is usually hot-swappable... don't see the problem.

So what you are saying that you (360 owners) will have to wait 6 months for the next update that fixes these problems? WOW that's sad.
updates are a good thing and they only take like 15 mins max, we lucky PS3 owners don't have bugs in our firmware just because "sony releases dash updates atleast 10 times a year"

no & this is why i think the next xbox console will suffer from some sort of hardware failure just like the 360.
Well, you know they are just gonna rush it out to be the first 'next gen console' so they might cut a few corners. Oh well people will still get it because they will have gears 3 and halo 4... and Microsoft will throw another 3yr warranty extension once enough people start bitching about the shitty hardware MS swore was just an "Isolated incident".

You can tell because the "solution" is absurd and will more than likley cause problems than solve any.

and if necessery an early minor update will come to the 360 as well:p
and i have yet to see one 360 hdmi who has audio problems after the update, even a non hdmi.:p

It is funny I didn't have any of the PS3 firmware errors or any of these errors from the NXE update but every other update on windows Vista fucks up my entire system I can't even log on now... stuck in update loop. I am realy considering switching to UIbuntu:(

If this is true, I want to know what scenario has to exist to cause this. Both my 20GB and my Elite had no problems. I'll ask my friends tomorrow. I wonder if it is a mod issue. Though the harddrive trick doesn't make any sense.
Oh by the way Yusky03, boot from your Vista disk and restore your system to an older point. When you get back into Vista, manually update KB937287 by itself 1st, then reboot. Then run your normal updates. This should never happen again.

QrafTee,
Sata might be hot swappable but the 360 HD is not. The system resets when you re-attach the 360 HD. Thats why this is a suspicious post. You would in effect be booting exactly like you were before you switched on plugged HD in and rebooted.
As for the SDF who laugh at a "Bug", I'd take the 360 updates any day. I've got to the point wher I simply ignore PS3 updates even though I get the pop up every time I switch on. For me they always smell trouble, take too much time and the minute you do one a day later another one comes along tomess with you all over again. Not saying it's the same for everyone, but I've had media streaming issues galore after earlier updates, they take AGES to update, unpack and install. Nothing short of a pain in the a$$. Not accepting updates means I can't download demo's but seeing as how that will end up hurting Sony more than me what do I care?

there's a certain sense of irony when you see a thread so full of outrage (mostly from people who dont even own a 360), yet no one single poster yet has stated that they are actually experiencing the claimed problem.
If it is a real problem, my only though is that's it's a shame it didnt get caught in the preview/beta. they certainly got a lot of people using it before the 19th; I'm very surprised no one noticed it before it got an official release

No its not suspicoius clearly you do not know what a soft reset is. This is in effect almost the same as the PS3 B&W streaming problem and don't exaggerate the PS3 "bugs" like you do because I know of only two. One was retaining the region settings of the movie during streaming ( which the 360 also has/had)
http://forum.videohelp.com/topic344217.html
and the other was due to the Firmware file being corrupted during DL. Both of which I did not experience but it does not mean it doesnt exist. You just seem to see the news spread and get publicised like crazy and this time the blade has cut the other way.
The bug is likely due to the display just as the B&W streaming was. You think not downloading demos is hurting sony more than you? whatever you say pal.

I waited for a couple of years before purchasing my 360, and after having read so many horror stories about RroD, I decided to wait on the NXE update. Good thing I just got Fallout 3 recently - I can't stop playing, so I'm in no hurry to update.

As far as this flamewar going on, why on earth does it bother most of the people who are screaming "ps3 fanboys"? When updates come out, "xbots" are in tose topics with the negativity FIRST. Now a similar situation arise for xbox and now all the blame is on p3 fanboys? Unreal.....

People have been saying that NXE gave them RROD aswell (sounds almost like a disease). Now imagine me saying your talking BS about the PS3 simply because I've had no problems. Thats what most are doing here though I agree that they take these stories too far posting them on every news site on the front page "with Firmware X killed my Y", "Game V destroyed my W", etc but don't always just call BS.

1)There are more users on the actual main thread on the AVforums they do not all have the same tvs/monitors but it certainly is a compatibility issue with the TV/monitor.
2) thats because some people do not post on threads until they have a problem they find the forum while searching for a solution on the net and join the discussion.

SATA may be hot swappable, but still, unless you have some kind of RAID set up, you do not unplug a hard drive while it is reading/writing and who knows if the HD driver supports hot swapping? Someone doing this shouldn't be surprised when data gets corrupted and certainly should not blame MS for any loss of data (though if there is such an HDMI audio bug, they certainly can blame MS for that).
As to what you wrote, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought either an HD or a 512mb memory card was necessary for the new NXE? This leads me to think there are firmware files copied to/fro a storage device.

usign HDMI here and no issue.
I doubt its an issue with the firmware itself, but more of an issue with how certain tv's handle the handshake via hdmi.
so should MS be at fault for certain persons choice of tv? I don't think so.
im sure MS will fix it anyway... so whatever.
Also anyone dumb enough to plug in their HDD while the 360 is powered on deserves data corruption.

sorry but there is no fake in that (why did i say sorry?? lol) i do have this problem and i REALY hope they will fix it soon. And by the way theres a simplier trick than what you said, when your 360 boots press Y and the R trigger and the console will reboot... now with sound. but as i saw I think its a video recongnition problem because when I have no sound, they give me a lot of resolution to choose from and they're like 1440X900 1280X800 so i think the xbox thinks that HDMI is a VGA cable that'S why there is no sound.

I think we have a winner here...
Back when I used to install cable as a job, hooking up these new HDMI TV,s. I always had a bit of dread because some TV's just did not work with our HD cable box's or they would work but only have sound if you unplugged the HDMI cable and plugged it back in while the TV and cable box was on.... So try to explain to the customer that every time you want to watch TV you have to unplug a cable and plug it back in.
Point is HDMI is picky.
