View Full Version : Resurface SwapMagic?

I just got SwapMagic after an annoying delay with my local post office (not going to get into that...bastards). Anyway my SwapMagic Disc sometimes works and sometimes doesn't get to the "load screen". It definitely seems a little scuffed up. Has anyone ever resurfaced one with a SkipDoctor? I really don't feel like going through another mailing situation if this can easily be remedied, but if it will destroy the disc then I guess sending it back for a replacement is my only option.

Actually, those skip doctor doohickeys work pretty good.

I picked one up to resurface an old PS1 game that's extremely hard to
find, and it worked great.

The main thing to remember with these things is that they don't "resurface,"
so much as take a thin layer off of the protective plastic layer of the disc. So,
with that in mind, it won't help scratches on the label side of the disc, which is
the part that actually contains the data.

Sometimes I have to run a disc through it two or three times on a badly scuffed
disc, but other than that, I don't have any real issues to report. It'd be pretty
hard to destroy the disc. One thing I wish I had been told is the scary-looking
pattern when it's done - looks like the machine did more damage than repair.

Thanks for the response robmrom :D

Yeah, I have the SkipDoctor and have used it on various types of discs. SkipDoctors can work very well, but on poor quality discs can sometimes be worse so I was really looking to see if anyone has done this on a SwapMagic Disc because I don't know what level of quality they are. The label is fine, no scuffs, scratches or holes, but the "surface" side has a lot of little scuffs that I assume are causing the problem.
