View Full Version : Truth revealed about Xbox 360's exclusive Tomb Raider DLC
The creative director of the new Tomb Raider game has revealed a new slew of information regarding the Xbox 360 exclusive DLC. He noted that the content isn't cut at all from the main game and was especially made after Microsoft approached the developer. He confirmed that the new chapters are not part of the main game. So fans of other consoles, there's no real need to worry....
Creative director Eric Lindstrom said that the 360-exclusive DLC isn't content cut from the main game but "especially made", and only came about after Microsoft approached the developer.
Earlier this month publisher Eidos announced plans for two brand new chapters providing up to six hours of additional gameplay, the first of which will be available to download before the end of the year.
Tomb Raider: Underworld - Beneath the Ashes, which will be available this Christmas, takes place after the Underworld story has finished and will feature a new environment to explore, additional secrets to unlock and different enemies to fight. Tomb Raider: Underworld - Lara's Shadow, planned for early 2009, will introduce players to a new playable character.
Lindstrom explained that the new chapters are "not part of the main game" and that Microsoft approached them to make the extra content.

Tacked on content usually fails epicly, even if i was buying the 360 version, i wouldn't pay extra for the addon stuff.

First two posts by the normal Sony mugs, now if it was the other way they would be happy.
Back on topic, i have always liked the Tomb Raider games, but the last one was shocking, hopefully this one goes back to its roots.

Here comes the first of the Microsoft defence force again with little to add to the debate why even post?
I find it too hard to believe that dlc thats in development at the same time as the game was not thought of as something in the past that would have been on the disc. Only burnout has given us true dlc worth talking about as it really adds to the game whether free or not.
Dlc that is developed after games release to prolong the titles appeal and take out criticisms is good but this seem like another weak excuse to get more money out of people.

The last two tomb raider games were great... yeah, the ones on the PS2 all sucked ass but what else do you expect from a sony console? :P jk jk. But seriously... this one should be great. Except of course for the motorcycle parts.. that just looked embarassing :(

They have the money to burn. It couldn't hurt them.

actually no the other way around I would say the same thing. i don't see the strategy in propositioning dlc for a title that doesn't have much weight any more.

Ehh call it what you will but MS has found a strategy that seems to be a decent one for gamers. I dont think it will sway owners of other consoles to the 360 but it is a nice perk for people that do have a 360. Its without a doubt far cheaper to pay for extra content on an existing multiplatform title than for total exclusivity. We haven't yet seen if it will pay off or even be attractive to existing owners but I would imagine if people like the game and the dlc is reasonably priced many will go for it.
As for tomb raider sure it went off track for a bit but its still a legendary title, look at Socom, people have been acting like thats one of the must have titles of the year and its a makeover a series that did the same thing. Uncharted proved that quest type games still have a market and this one is supposedly a complete re-imaging of the franchise...I'll reserve judgement until I play it.

this is what I love about Microsoft. They actually have the balls to court a developer and throw them big money as long as they can anal them.
Its like a threesome, where Sony only gets the usual stuff but the girl tells Microsoft, 'you can put it anywhere you want'.
