Aight well I spent a lot of time modding my baby but I need to sell it to buy a 360. This may sound dumb but when I get my 360 and a modchip DOES come out. Is it safe to assume that I'll be able to play my original backed up xbox games also? What do you think. Please speak out of experience because it would suck if I had to buy another regular xbox and mod it again :(

The edit button has been removed for some unknown reason... It is very annoying not having it.

You make a pretty valid point with the psu problem from what I understand next lines will contain one with 2 fans.
I think it's been proven that' it's the psu block problem I don't plan on stacking it inside a closet or leaving it on the rug. It'll be with my entertainment center so I don't know if I'll still encounter crashes. Let me know.
Still would like some input on whether you think the first line of chips will come with original xbox backup option.

anybody got some input on whether or not you are fairly confident that the first line of chips for the 360 will be compatible with xbox 1 backups?

thats very hard to say... my guess is it could be a while.. due to the originals being run via emulation i think the emulator would need to be cracked/hacked before they will work..
i highly suggest that you keep your original xbox unless you don't play backed up games and homebrew (XBMC, emulators, etc)
it could be a while for x360 homebrew/backups... and even then original xbox games are another step...

Save your xbox, start saving for a 360. Once the ps3 comes out, the price will drop for the 360 and you can get it cheaper with a better line up of games to choose from. Not that the games now are bad, there just isn't a lot to choose from.

1) MAME is an arcade emulator, emulation all teh good old 1980's games (donkey kong, phoenix and so on)
2) The 360 will not playback your backup xbox games WITHOUT any modchip.
I'll doubt, that any modchip will come out within the next 6 months as the 360 protections is REALLY tight (from what i understand).
So save your money, or use both :D

6 months.....wow. I own practically everything. all 3 current consoles and now that you mention it took forever for the gamecube to have a chip......But then again look at the progress already. They've upgraded the hard drive. a few physical mods and were on xlink kai I think within days of launch. Wow a lot to think about. And I may get a few replies about how even though these hacks have come out it doesn't have much to do with chips and hacking the actual box. But in reply to that I'd like to say that it shows the determination within the scene ass they tighten the grip.
