The International Herald Tribune is reporting that "Microsoft is expected to cut its forecasts for the remainder of the year as customers curtail software spending amid the economic downturn." One analyst has also warned that the economic downturn may seriously effect Microsoft's Xbox business. "It looks like we are going to have a really difficult holiday season with the U.S. consumer pulling back a lot. So the Xbox business might be weak going forward," said Morningstar analyst Toan Tran.

It's going to be a weak holiday season for everyone. The new year will not be good also because of this. Shouldn't have passed the buyout America. Now it's just going to hurt more when it all corrects itself.

When you rely on 2 titles for your whole holidays you might want to recheck your forecasts indeed

the slow economy has nothing to do with it as i'm sure the ps3 business will be better than ever specially with the current great software line up.it's all down to what consumers wants really.

qft,

they know gears of war 2 + fable 2 or what ever its called not enough to do the trick for their troubled xbox360.also the latest pirating of gears of war2 must have hurt them a lot,end of the day they're like any other company are in it to make profit & playing games with sony has proved extremely costly, rushing the console cost them billions of dollars, price cuts cost them millions & paying millions on top to buy sony's old exclusives which hardly done them any good.not exactly the right way to do business, they should take a leaf out of sony's & nintendo's how to do business the right way book.

Well, I am glad that you are sure the PS3 will be better, but anyone with half a brain cell knows that numbers are probably not going to be as high as last years (across the board in the U.S., I don't care which system you like more).

P.S. Congrats on double posting. Not only are you a horrible fanboy, but you are also a post count whore.

Do the PS3 horde really think that the economic problems faced by everyone is not going to effect sony too? Even someone with a simplistic knowledge of how maths work could forsee this season would be difficult for all partys concerned but just for a moment lets think about this scenario.

Parents discuss what little johnny wants for xmas, Parent 1 says little johnny wants a games console, Parent 2 reminds Parent 1 about the price of the consoles and how they are struggling with money atm. Parent 1 tells Parent 2 that there are 3 to choose from. Sony PS3 £299.99, Nintendo Wii £179.99 and Xbox 360 £99.99. Parent 2 says yes but what about price of games, parent 1 replies "they are all roughly the same price". Parent 1 and Parent 2 agree Xbox 360 is the obvious choice.

You do the maths yourself to see that even a simplistic scenario as above is going to show that Sony would be the one with the bigger problem than either the 360 or Wii during the present economic climate.

(I now await the obvious posts regarding RROD, which parents would probably be unaware off)

No but the sony defense force where told to pretend it wouldn`t

Sony is in worse shape than xbox 360. People don't want a over priced dvd player and they sure dont wanna be forced to buying it. Thanks to that dvd sony gets to be the most expensive console for another year and will probably still have the lowest holiday sales.

Come jan. watch ps3 owners be making excuses for why ps3 sold so bad. Then they will say it was the economy's fault and not the fact the ps3 cost to much.

But with the US economy so screwed up id expect the arcade xbox 360 will probably be the best selling xbox 360 thanks to its $199.00 price.

Should be worth watching to see if the weak economy effects wii selling out though. The must have holiday item will probably still sell out though thanks to low stock from nintendo.

What as aposed to 1 title that Sony is relying on not just for the holiday but for the PS3 life.

That's 2 more titles this year than the PS3 has.

If anything, the slow economy will hurt the PS3 more than the 360.

Sony fans, settle down. Everybody is going to be affected. This is going to be a Wii Christmas at best anyway. It actually is a wise decision for MS to reevaluate its numbers, so that they will get less heat by the sales variances when this is all over. I am sure Sony will follow suit sometime too. Since there will be a few Blu-Ray players for $250(Walmart has a couple skus now), and a rumor of a $199 Venture(I think that was the brand, I'll look it up and repost later) this season, Sony has to really push the PS3 as a game console now, and $400 dollars will be an issue. Just worry about the games you like. Not everybody has the same taste. The software will do just fine on any console. Lighten up.
