View Full Version : Here is OXM's perfect 10/10 review for Fallout 3
Finally someone has uploaded the last page of OXM's review of Fallout 3 in which they gave the game a perfect 10. Some of the most positive points from the review include that it features a massive, rich looooooooooong world that you'll explore for quite some time and is an intense challenging combat.

I don't think any reviewer should ever give a game a perfect score, because it can't possibly be perfect.
On the other hand I absolutely can't wait for this game. It's out in 12 days! Yay!
Those who have been naughty and played it early.... is it as good as it looks and sounds?

The 10/10 isn't really a perfect score, IMO the 10/10 comes from how much you can get into and enjoy the game. Thats my interpretation anyway.
I'm really enjoying it even though I didn't mean too. I was going to wait for the PC version but thought I'd give it a go anyway. 28 hours later, I'm still enjoying it. If you enjoyed Oblivion, then you will love this.

i like this more than oblivion, oblivion was well to complex.so far i am finding this more uncomplicated.
i like the (i thinks is vat or is it vad) system, where you hit the right bumper and you can target the enemies.choose limbs to shoot, makes the combat a bit more interesting.just blasting away is not the way to go in this game.
just the trepsing round gets to be a pain.but, once you find more locations at least you can travel the world map.
not a 10/10 though.
i have not managed to pick 1 lock yet, that piss's me off big time, they keep snapping on me all the time.bummer!

OMFG! Am I the only one who thinks that game sucks? I mean what the hell can you possibly like about it? The aiming sucks. The inventory screen sucks. The story itself sucks. About the only thing I liked about it is being able to switch from 1st person to 3rd person whenever I want too and the graphics looks really good.

Lockpicking gets easier with time but never too easy, Oblivion's was too easy so I'm glad to see this is a much better version. Also I love the computer hacking system, think its great, much better than that Bioshock system.
Oh and wait until you get a 'very hard' lock to pick, you'll snap some bobby pins then!

10/10? Come on everyone knows no game deserves a 10/10 (except MGS4)! Just because GTAIV got it everyone started throwing 10s around

Already finished it and have to say its not as good as oblivion. The very few hub cities are pretty dull apart from megaton, which made me glad I didn't blow it up in the first mission. Outdoors is fun and looks amazing. Combat works really well and the VATS really blends in with the real time stuff. Biggest disappointment is that most of the fallout humor is gone. There's not a lot of side quests, you can't work your way up a faction so there's not really any sense of progression, I went into the final mission and didn't even realise till the credit abruptly rolled (also you're not allowed to continue your game once you finish it which is annoying for a sandbox RPG). They've simplified it a lot from oblivion and there's not a lot of customisation options once you get into it, whereas oblivion had the enchantments to keep it going. That said, I've already preordered it as its still a good game, but no way is it a 10.

I think you've just wrapped up my worries about the game. It did strike me that there doesn't seem to be many sidequests. I went to Rivet City and was expecting to get some mroe sidequests like you would have in Oblivion but left with nothing. Well, thats not structly true, as I did rob them blind!

I've been absolutly looking forward to this game, but you just scared me! I don't understand how they could allow it to offer less then Oblivion? What really scares me is the Exclusive Xbox DLC, That will be an outrage, if everything extra you expect out of a fallout, has been rolled up into 360 only DLC.
That would cause a riot.

Off topic I know but I don't get MGS.... I'm trying to play MGS4 but am finding it quite a chore, I'm not far in and that octopus headed guy intrigues me tho. The way I feel about it at the moment I'd much rather play a Splinter Cell game any day of the week.

I'm sick of these "impossible to get a 10/10 cuz that means it's perfect" posts. THAT IS NOT THE WAY THE SYSTEM WORKS! Nobody really nows how the system works because it is flawed in the first place. I trust metacritic ratings because they include the average of the total extremes (some people think the scaling should be 5 = average and some people think an 8 = average [like in school... sometimes]). In the end, if you are heavily relying on a score as to whether or not buy a game, you should probably just play the demos or rent to figure out which one YOU like better, not some other Schmoe who is probably getting payed off to give it a higher score.
On topic, I have also just beaten the game and glad I save frequently, because I too was sideswiped when the credits started rolling. The main storyline is not too long, but that is also not the entire game. There are SO many more side quests available and the time invested into the main storyline kept me intrigued the entire time (which is also why the abrupt ending left me feeling mad because I wanted more!). I will still play the game for side quests and experience points.
If you liked Oblivion in the slightest, you will enjoy this game. Don't let some of these other guys posts leave you with a bitter taste, this is the only bad of the game. The rest is so very good! :D

Like I said above 10/10 doesn't mean it's perfect.
For me, I would give 10/10 to FFVII and Oblivion - thats not because they are perfect, far from it. It's because I really did enjoy them THAT much.

yeah i would give it about an 8 myself. As I've said before, what sets fallout apart is the humor, and bethesda really had a great opportunity to let loose and be a bit silly, but they've pretty much embraced the full-on post-apocalyptic dystopia setting instead. They've attempted a few comedic moments, and there's a few laugh out loud moments but too few and far between, everything else they tried to root in reality.
It's lost a lot of character in the cities, in fallout 2, although the cities were mostly run down and ruined, there was a sense of culture, like people were getting on with their lives. There were casinos, a porn industry, a new mafia, boxing in reno, there were those crazy chinese martial arts gangs doing their thing in san fran etc. Whereas apart from megaton, everyone in fallout 3 are pretty much just holed up in one place or another with pretty much no hint of entertainment or passtimes besides a bar, all they seem to do was either tend to their weapons shop, food shop or clinic. you would've thought they've all just crawled out the vaults.
