Official Xbox Magazine UK has revealed a few interesting details about Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade certification process. IT reveals that all XBLA games must be playable on a 14-inch CRT television. <i>Introversion Software MD Mark Morris (currently working on Darwinia+ for XBLA) told OXM, "Microsoft has extremely strict technical certification requirements that you have to get right. One of the biggest challenges is that your game has got to be playable on a 14-inch CRT television. So you have to do all this visibility work in case someone is playing it on a composite cable through a TV, to make sure they can still read all of the text and tell exactly what's going on."</i>

That's great but who buys a 360 just for XBLA games. Imagine trying to play Dead Rising on that TV..

Why don't they make this Standard for Disc Games as well? I just remember pinching my eyes while playing Lost Planet or Dead Rising on my old not-so-small Crt

I can see this being useful for kids who are playing on a road trip or something, playing on those tiny LCD car screens.

Or..
those of us that have better thing we have to pay for then $2000 on a tv.
I dont know one person who actuly ownsan LCD/Flat panel tv because they are to damn expensive.

I know some of you dont think that they are, but when you grow up and mommy and daddy dont wipe your butt anymore you cant just buy everything that looks pretty.

I think this is one of MS better ideas because there are alot more people that dont have nice brand new shiny tv's

Oh, and the grow up comment wasnt directed at you Pezjongo

Seriously, i've got a 17-inch CRT and games like Burnout paradise and Lost odyssey... my eyes start to hurt like 15 minutes into the game, at least games like Eternal Sonata and Vesperia got it right, Eternal sonata has fairly large fonts, but by far the greatest solution came from Vesperia team, you can pick from three different fonts, one is i presume for LCDs because it's fairly thin and small, the other fits nicely on a CRT with thick and blocky lines.

Damn, I missed that option in vesperia... had a hell of a time reading in that one, guess I know why now :)

Agreed, a 32" crt here and I've had to shut off a few really good games because I don't like to get up to squint at it from 1 foot away.

Can't play dead rising on my component 29 inch crt here. Sounds like a good standard to me. I just wish non-XBLA developers would think of this or at least have an option to enlarge the text. Maybe i'm too old and my eyes are going.

lol..
I got a 27" crt with a blown vacume tube so anytime certain shades of white or red show it makes a big blurry line through the bottom fo the tv where all HUD and subtitles would be.
Its even more fun when trying to play house o fthe dead and You have to put the gun up to the screen because the focus is off.

Come on Tax return for a new tv

I've never had any probs reading things on a 30" CRT - even Dead Rising wasn't as bad as people made out (it could have been much more readable though).

I don't see this as a bad thing though, good on MS.
