View Full Version : Xbox 360 beats PS3 for the FIFTH Week in a row in Japan
Reports indicate that the Xbox 360 has beaten the weekly sales total of the PS3 for the FIFTH week in a row. Latest weekly figures show the Xbox 360 has sold 6,690 units compared to the PS3's 5,899 weekly units in Japan. Looks like the PS3 has got some serious work to do out there...
Xbox 360 sales (6,690) continue to dominate Sony's PS3 in Japan as Microsoft's winning streak races to five straight weeks in a row against their bitter rivals. Moreover, PlayStation 3 sales are now falling perilously low (beating out last week's lowest ever recorded sales tally) with only 5,899 Japanese consumers purchasing the next-gen console. With over a month of trailing behind Microsoft's console in their own backyard, this no longer qualifies as an anomaly for Sony and surely some deep, thought provoking questions need to be asked over at Sony HQ. oh wow, barely even 800 units more... across the WHOLE of japan in a week.. how is this a success?, not as many people are going to be buying the ps3 since a large majority of them already have it, 360 was doing shitly in japan up until very recently, so barely anyone out there had one..
Only makes sense to me that the 360 will sell more if people are finally adopting it, but then i think logically, clearly this isn't something zeus does when posting these flamebait news articals..
Anyway to everyone here, hit up firefox add-ons site and grab yourself a nice ad blocker, then block every single ad you find on maxconsole.
Maybe he'll take the hint and stop causing flame wars to increase the sites hits.

Told ya this was going to happen when news broke of the first recent sales victory ;) It's not gonna let up... even if it barely beats it, matches, or is right under it... its going to eventually pick up steam and trample the PS3 for awhile and every PS3 fanboy on this forum is going kick and scream and ***** about how videogames have gone to hell and they arent even worth playing anymore blah blah... dont have to be psychic to see this coming :P

If you look at the figures by themselves, neither look great. It's impressive considering the history of the 360 sales in Japan though, and that's why Zeus is posting this.

LBP... yeah you'll see a huge software number, and a spike in hardware sales but it wont last more than a few weeks max. Bundles never do.

Instead, are pathetic xbox360 sales after the big price cut ( xbox360 price is now slightly above the PS2 price) + Tales of Vesperia + Infinite Undiscovery.

Everyone knows you can install a bigger hard drive in a PS3 yourself, no one will care about an 80GB version. LBP will definitely slay the charts software wise but probably won't push as many consoles as you're hoping. MGS4 didn't, and neither will LBP.

Everyone knows you can install a bigger hard drive in a PS3 yourself, no one will care about an 80GB version. LBP will definitely slay the charts software wise but probably won't push as many consoles as you're hoping. MGS4 didn't, and neither will LBP.
1) PS3 40GB shortage in this time.
2) 30/10/2008 people buy with the same price 80GB model.

please check the npd numbers for the last moths you will see that the xbox 360 is doing better then ps3.

the PS3 is awesome, but being level headed i would find it really strange if little big planet sells consoles when mgs4 didn't do much to help console sales of the PS3.
if LBP does push more consoles than MGS4, then consider me officially confused.

Wasn’t going to bother posting as we seem to have been here before...
It does not matter if it sells 1 more than the PS3 or 800.
The PS3 in Japan is in its heartland so the PS3 (historically) should always be outselling the 360.
Whatever happens to the 360 this is some achievement and it’s obvious Sony need a price cut to change things. Offering larger hard drives, bundling games and hoping exclusives like LBP will turn things around but like someone already mentioned MGS4 did have not the desired result.
Maybe, just maybe Japanese gamers are starting to appreciate the 360 for its games library and online capabilities and slowly starting to move away from their parochial attitudes towards western consoles.
Stanger things have happened.:)

but what gamers want to know is when are decent games we want to play coming, in the meantime the wii is outselling ps2+ps3+360 combined.
it seems the japanese are finaly giving up on the sony false promises and switching their alliegence to the 360 although how long for, who knows.

What are you smoking l33t? The 360 has the highest software attach rate of any console, wii included. Yeah, it has piracy but so does the Wii. What is your point exactly?

I don't know what PlayStation 3 games are doing to the Sony PS 3 fan boys brains. It seems as though they are rotting their last brain cells. Have you took a good look at what PS 3 fan boys are saying in their debates about how the PS 3 is better than the Xbox 360. It's a joke REALLY! :cool: They just can't seem to accept that the Xbox 360 is winning in all too many categories. :D Regions, software sales and online capabilities come to mind. I always lol at this things, because some people swear by the japanese xenophobia, and here we are a few RPGs, price cuts later, and the 360 is beating the ps3 in sales. I guess they're getting over their xenophobia pretty easily then :rolleyes:
Things are starting to get really interesting, and while it's true that it's not really the 360 that is selling good, but the ps3 that's selling bad; MS can consider this gen a success in regards to Japan, at the very least it's a HUGE improvement over the last.
I will say this, people keep mentioning the negligible effect MGS4 had on ps3 hardware sales, but just in case people are not aware MGS isn't exactly the most popular series in japan, never has been, so I believe a lot of you could be surprised at what LBP can do for hardware sales. It might not be a proven series like someone pointed out in another thread, but it's quirky and weird enough to seem something the japanese gamer will enjoy.
Anyways sony need to realize nothing is sacred, not even their motherland, so it will be in their best interest to sweet talk 3rd parties, and kick their own gaming studios into high gear if they don't want to be obliterated even in japan.... on and please let's stop saying how the wii is beating everything under the sun in sales; I don't see anyone arguing that fact, nor is it relevant to the current argument.

The 360 experienced a spike in sales and is coming down. Don't be surprised the number will get lower until they release experience another spike by releasing a big name game jrpg.

I give up, the xbox fanboys can't grow up. I was going to post the Sales charts, once again, to show just how far behind the 360 is in japan, but its not worth it, they won't be able to comprehend it.

I see how it is now. Sales don't matter, there was a preconcieved notion, before the PS3 came out, that the Xbox3 was to be the winner, At all costs, and pride, Nomatter what happend. If it was the other way around, and PS3 had 20 million sold, the xbox fans would still be like this. its a smear campeign. their goal? they just don't want sony to be the king anymore, has nothing to do with ANYTHING else other than THAT.
Whats there latest step? Look at the user reviews for LBP, Xbox fanboys downvoted it, for no reason, other then to embarass the PS3 for Media's sake. I say we Smear Gears 2 reviews.

Most people I know have at least 2-3 xbox's. One just isn't enough, maybe they discovered that in Japan too?
both aren't doing that great, seems japan is a portable loving country, for what reasons i will never know.
now we just have to wait for the holiday numbers and see who outsold who.

The real story here is that the PS2 is still managing to sell thousands of consoles a week despite it being 8 years old.
Sony and MS should just give up talking about 'wars' because none of them will ever get near the Wii in lifetime sales.

Yes your right from a hardware point of view but I wonder is any "other" software houses are making any money from it (excluding Nintendo of course)...

But thats not Nintendo's concern. They have never been one for making things easy for 3rd parties in any of the generations.
They inevitably make the hardware and the best games for their own consoles.
