Recently, I updated my Wii firmware to 3.3U and lost the ability to play original disc. backup plays fine. Do I have to downgrade my Wii firmware?

You might want to check for firmware updates for the modchip itself.

The d2ckey has no firmware updates. It's never had any problems other than the long 31 wire install.

If it's a real d2ckey and not a d2cpro or a dc2key or some clone you shouldn't have any problems with it.
