SMS on a PStwo?

Hello everybody. I was doing some spring cleaning the other day (rather late in the year for spring cleaning, I admit) when I noticed that my old PStwo had a couple of USB ports. "Wow! Wouldn't it be cool if I could watch DivX movies through those USB ports?" I said out loud, to myself, like some kind of crazy old wino.

Then I found out about SMS Media Player and rejoiced. "This is exactly what I've been looking for, or something" I rejoiced. But my rejoice soon turned to despair, confusion, possibly even fear, when I realised that I have absolutely no idea how to get SMS onto my unmodified PStwo.

Crestfallen, I scoured the internet for a solution. Maybe I could read the humongous, over-complicated instruction manual... Maybe I could spend days reading page after page of contradictory forum posts on the subject... Maybe I could pay a kindly old wizard to "magic" it onto my machine...

After a weekend of high-level talks with the wizard and his associates, they voted 14 to 5 AGAINST my proposed PStwo media station plan.

Anyway, basically, to cut a long story short, will somebody please tell me how (in layman's terms) to get SMS onto my unmodified PStwo? I would be really grateful.

See, I found this nifty flowchart saying that it's actually impossible to install SMS on an unmodified PStwo:

But I find that hard to believe and stuff. Oh, I'm so confused.

The only way to run SMS, or any other homebrew program, on a Playstation
console is to give said console the ability to run homebrew code.

On a phat PS2, this is easily accomplished by installing the Independence
Exploit, enabling the PS2 to boot an .elf launcher at startup.

However, on a slim PS2, Sony corrected the flaw in the Playstation's BIOS
that allowed the Independence Exploit to work. Without that ability, then
your option is FreeMCBoot. Someone may have to smack me down for that,
but I believe the FreeMCBoot method does work for slims.

Except now I have to figure out how to get FreeMCBoot on my PStwo.

I suppose I didn't expect this to be easy...

I'm sure you know somebody that has a regular phat PS2. If you do,
you can borrow it long enough to get an exploit running on it, and then
copy the FreeMCBoot package over to your own memory card. It's a
long process, but I can't think of any easy way to do it without a phat
PS2 handy.

If you don't have a friend with a FAT PS2, you can get someone to install fmcb 1.7 for you on mc.
Dangwoot over at psx-scene is reliable if you are in the states. Just cost you the postage to him and back with your mc.
