I'm looking to buy a mod chip for my wii - price isn't really an issue and neither is installation.
I just lately updated my wii which I hope shouldn't be a problem. I need a mod chip that runs all games perfectly, is future-proof (updates, for example) and won't 'brick' my wii.
I'm not sure what this talk is about D2C compatible and stuff and am really new to this stuff. I don't know if my wii is of the new kind or the old, but if someone could tell me a method of how to find out, that would be great, thanks.
Help much appreciated!

well, how long have you had your wii? did you enter your code here? http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php
every wii has a drive chip, and and that is the chip mods change to open up region free and backup support. But, Nintendo has built the wii with many different chips. D2B D2A D2c D2C2 D2E ect... there are modchips that work for every chip that a wii has. The link I just gave you give a scientific guess to what kind of chip you have. OR since the D2pro9 and Wasabi modchip buth work on ALL wii chip sets, both would work. The best way to chose a future proof chip is to pick a largly used and most popular one.

the new version d2pro9v3 now works on all wiis and is future proof ,you are able to re-write the chips firmware if need be with the d2programmer ,you can also update the spi by dvd .
best supported chip out there ,always the first to release updates too.

"Your Drive Chip is most likely GC2-D2C.
Your Drive Pins are most likely not cut."
I don't have a clue what that means lol. but it seems that d2cpro thingy seems the way to go. Any other options?
And where can I get the official one of these badboys?
EDIT: Do I just need one of these with the screwdriver and I'm set to go?

Best thing to do is open the Wii up to access the DVD drive and check what the chip has written on it, most places that sell chips will be able to recommend a chip if supply them with your serial number. I brought a D2SUN V3, supports all versions to date.

I would do what didineedthis said and get the d2pro9v3. Guaranteed to work.
also, most places you order from will sell the modchip with a triwing screwdriver. I would suggest getting one from didineedthis's online store or from modchipcentral.
And if you don't feel comfortable soldering it to your wii, you should get a presoldered clip or send your wii to didineedthis to get it professionally soldered. of course that costs more.

you can definitely trust 360upgrades to have genuine stuff...
yes, that's a good chip, are you going to solder it on yourself?

well my brother is good at this sorta stuff, so I'll ask him to do it. Any good guides on how to do this stuff.. I think all he needs is a video example.
EDIT: It says on the bottom, 'chipset', which one do I go for?
