well, it's weird posting a question, cause I can usually just keep reading through forums till I find the answer... But I can't seem to find and help on this.
I have a D2E Wii with a D2pro9. 3.3U
I installed the homebrew channel, and I can successfully run .dol wiibrew from it. I have tried and played several emulators on it and really love the system. Many of these emulator platforms have DVD support, which I really would like to get running since I have many complete console rom collections.
Since my Wii is modded, I assumed I could just create data disc of the roms and play them from there off of the emulators on my SD card. I burnt the discs as ISO9660 and ISO9660 with UDF. I tried both since some of the emulator info pages say "The DVD should use ISO 9660 file format"
but most just have something along the lines of "SD, USB, DVD, SMB, GC Memory Card, and Zip ROM support" But, neither disc worked and the emulator said "The DVD is not the right format" (I think, If I am remembering correctly)
On a few emulator info pages it says "The ROMs can be placed on DVD-/+R (4.7GB max size) but you need to install the DVDx on your Wii. More infos on HackMii" So I cheked the link and found it to say this (but stillnot a real guide or howto): "If you have a modchip, you also need patchmii, in addition to the DVDX stub installer." and then gave me a link to the download of patchmii core. This, at least, made me realize that I did need additional homebrew software even though my drive was hardmodded...
Since then... I have not been able to find any guides or help on installing patchmii core. So I just added patchmii core (.dol) to the "executable" folder on my SD card and put DVDx on the "apps" folder. Only DVDx showed up on the homebrew channel, so I attempted to instal that. In the installation, It said to chose the option to instal type 1 if you do not have a mod chip, to install type 2 if you DO have a chip but does not support DVDs (what?!?! isnt that the purpose of mod chips?) and then said chose either one if my mod chip did support DVDs. So I went with option 2. it then gave me an option to install patchmii, when I tried that, It said cannot install, patch me not found. It then installed DVDx (without me telling it to). this seemed to have no effect, but since DVDx was seemingly installed, I tried the discs I made again. Now I saw the sad outcome. NONE of the homebrew apps would load, the screen would just freeze black! I should have tried a wii game to see if it would work, but I didnt feel like experimenting too much. So I searched around to see how to uninstall DVDx. I read to just run the install again and select uninstall from the options. I did that, since DVDx was the only HBapp to load, and uninstalled it.
At this point everything went back to normal, homebrew and apps load and run (but not with roms-on-DVD support). I remembered a post here about DVDx a few days ago and it said to install patchmii first, which is what I tried. Other than that, I hadn't seen any other support for it here. I'd like to get it running with the DVD discs. If I can get help with it, I can make a guide for everyone (as you can see, I dont mind typing to much).
Thanks,
DrLucky
As a side question. When emulators say "USB support" I know I can run them from a flashdrive, but could I have them on a USB hard drive? That would be even better than on DVDs... but I can only afford DVDs right now anyway... so I need to figure that out first.....
