Hello,
Should i go for a console with the D2lite fitted or can someone advise on the best mod chip. basically i want a direct boot of backups no disk swapping or setting lots of settings etc to run stuff. Ideally a mod chip that is future proof aswell. any recomensdations please and please state why u recoomend it over others.
Many thanks:D

I've played with a couple of the lite chips.
I've had no problems on either a D2C and a D2E, they've loaded everything. I did have (possibly) a faulty chip that wouldn't work, the drive had no activity when it was connected. i know the soldering was fine because when I swapped the chip to a D2Pro using the same wires it worked 100%. This was probably isolated. I have sent the chip back and hope to have it confirmed as faulty any minute now.
As far as the chip itself goes, as I say no complaints with loading or anything. It is DVD updatable so should be fine. HOWEVER the D2lite is ALLEGED to be for region fee only (yeah right) and the firmware that was "released" to allow backup loading is SUPPOSED to be hacked ;);) It does beg the question that if Nintendo release a future firmware to detect mod chips, will d2lite also recieve an official or unofficial update?? Who knows?
As it stands it's a perfectly good solution. Is it worth paying a couple of quid more for a D2Pro or alternative? Tough call, probably is my heart-felt opinion.

I bought 20 d2lite in and I had 4 failures out of that batch.
When they work they work but its getting them to work in the first place.
Had no troubles at all getting them to work on D2E and Later D2C2 models.
Just a bit of a pain on the d2c to d2c2 crossover boards.

d2lites work 100% if you know how to install them ,i have installed plenty of them with no issues on any drive boards ,they boot games quicker than the d2prop too , you just need to know how to install them.
