ive had my wiii since they first came out and had it modded soon after that... ive had no problems with updates or any games... ive played SSBB lots and have never had problems... a few errors here and there but i just restart and it usually works fine after that.... but i started SSBB up the other day then the game loaded and then when the opening video started it came up with a disc read error and now no backups gamecube or wii will work... my retail discs still work fine... i tried the recovery disc also and it didnt fix it either... is my chip pooched or something? why would it just suddenly stop working?

nope not a clone... whats the problem tho... do i need to order a new chip? i guess it could be a connection problem but i didnt use wires and my solder job was pretty sturdy and even reinforced the chip with tape... dunno guess ill have to take a look inside then

Sounds like the Wiikey is dead. You can try to touch up your solder job a bit. Do a quick multimeter test or something. If all else fails you'll need a new chip. I know you mentioned the tape. That won't help you much other than keeping the chip from shorting against anything.

I've seen this happen plenty with a chip that wasn't installed 100% perfectly. I usually just remove the chip, clean everything up thoroughly, and then re-install. If it still doesn't work, then you may have a dead chip.

its not worth messing around with , just fit a new wiikey there cheap enough.
