Hi all. I just bought a modded Wii so I can back up my game discs and play imports. I have imgburn latest version but it doesn't see the disc in the laptop dvd drive.

I have seen some stuff that you need a special dvd burner (LG) to rip the original disc but it is all from 2007. Is this still true? If so what dvd burner and software do I need? Is it a complicated process?

I have backed up plenty of dvd movies and PS2 games in the past, so I thought this would be as simple as that. I guess not.

Thanks for reading this.

Cheers

Yeah there are a few ways of doing this but what you have read is still valid.
The easiest way is by using a DVD 2 SD card dumper. It splits the game into chunks and then you put all the chunks back together to create the ISO.

I think you need an LG dvd reader (for the method you have suggested) but i cant honestly remember.

Like you say your wii is modded so its easier to use some homebrew. I havent backed up a disk for AGES so im not sure what the best software is now.

Im sure someone can help...

Thx Showstopper. I get the impression from reading though that it doesn't work on Windows Vista which is what I'm running. Easy to buy an LG drive than install operating system...lol

Im not 100% sure but its just a dos command so as long as you run it as administrator you should be ok.

OR

Install VMware (free) and then run XP.

megaloot4u.com has the drives you need just click on Wii drives at the top of the page then use rawdump or friidump to dump the games

Thx Snake. I did just that. I'll let you all know how it goes. I'm not in the US so it will probably take 7-10 days to arrive.

Thx tech3475. I found the wifi instruction on the net but as I already bought the LG drive I'll use that as the main method. I'll try the wifi thing for fun though.

I have been having success with an LG DVD drive (the usb external one sold by megaloot4u on eBay). The drive takes about 2.5 to 3.5hrs to rip a game to an iso using rawdump 2.0 and then I use either roxio or imgburn. I have used both TDK and Verbatim +R inkjet printable that work fine.
The drive is a little on the expensive side for what it is but it does the job. It can sometimes take 10-15 min to start a rip but I haven't had a failure yet and I've backed up 10 of my games.
