View Full Version : Rumor: MGS 4 assistance producer hired by MS for Peter Jackson Halo game
Rumor has it that the assistant producer of Metal Gear Solid 4 Ryan Payton has been hired by Microsoft to be the creative director on the upcoming Peter Jackson Halo game. Apparently, this should be treated as 'very reliable news'.
Rumor has it that Ryan Payton, late of Kojima Productions, has landed a pretty impressive job here in the states.
Our very reliable sources tell us that Payton has been hired by Microsoft to be the creative director on the upcoming, and still not dead, Peter Jackson Halo game.
The news, very reliable news, comes weeks after we broke the news that Gearbox Director of Technology Corrinne Yu had been hired by Microsoft Game Studios to be Principle Engine Architect for Microsoft's Halo Franchise Team.
Rumor had it at the time that Yu and her husband, Kenneth Scott were both joining Microsoft Game Studios. Scott is an art director at id Software.
Payton, assistant producer on Metal Gear Solid 4, has been credited with spearheading a more Western approach to controls for Metal Gear Solid 4, making the game far more approachable and much tighter than the previous installment. He also helped warm the MGS4 team up to more Western developed games like Gears of War as well.

FAIL. This guy had talent, R.I.P. Ryan Payton, you were good back in the day, now you will be making way over-hyped games like Halo and with "PETER JACKSON" over your name, the game will sell more because that is why you are both hired. They will tell you "Do your best with the less" instead of "Do your best, if you need time, ask us, explain us why you need it and we will consider giving you the ressource for your game".
Remember what you did in MGS4? Praising sony PSP and blu-ray in some cutscenes, now you will be stepping backward and playstation fan will crush you on every playstation-related website. Nice shot Payton, you are another cash-addict person without caring about the whole gaming industry, which falls under crap, over-hyped, huge marketing directed games.
Go Payton go... and do not come back. If this new is false, I'll be happy though.

You do understand this is a job for him, right? This is how he makes a living. He does not give two sh!ts about which company he works for (MS or Sony). How can you say he doesn't care about the gaming industry? I don't even know in which direction you were heading with that comment, but he makes a living off of the gaming industry. How could he not care about it?

MS I guess, is buying the reputation and image off the back of a couple of interviews more than any tangible unique ability to deliver great games.....
Everything is about perception nowadays anyway....
F*ck it, if the game's sh*t his name won't change anything....

Oh jees man, that hurt so bad. You changed a couple letters in my name, OW.
Get over yourself.
No, I personaly did not play th egame, I dont have a PS3. But I have watched more then 1 person play it and All the people I know that have played it have either sold it to gamestop or just put it away.
It didnt suck, it was a beautiful game, but there were waay to many cutscenes. I may have exagerated on it, but I prefer gameplay over pretty videos.
Crappy smoker?? does that mean that I smoke crapily? wow, that makes sense.

Yes he could make a damn good game under another company than MS. MS is recycling old stuff to make them profitable to the max, which is a good thing for their pockets, but not for the gaming industry.
If this guy is brilliant, he won't work for them. This is only for the money if he starts working for Microsoft, what else? Sony is not perfect, but at least if they hire someone like him, they will let him do whatever he wants because he is good. Like: "hey, create a damn good game" and not "Hey create a halo game that must respect the universe, gameplay and upcoming movie".
Or at least he sould work for a small developper, where he could unleash what he learns in Japan and add his personal touch to it. I'm no fanboy, just that some talented people gets sucked by some companies and we end up playing Halo underground 4: The movie game.

"Hey create a halo game that must respect the universe, gameplay and upcoming movie".
Well they are hardly going to let him make up stuff which doesn't fit into the game are they? Making sequels is all about consistency, so of course they want him to respect the universe and gameplay.
