Reports indicated 3D Realms has confirmed that Duke Nukem 3D for XBLA will be available on on September 24th. That's the Wednesday after the next one coming up. The big boss of the company commented that he believes Duke Nukem 3D will still stand up pretty well against today's modern day game as it offers a different kind of fun.

"I think Duke Nukem 3D still holds up pretty well today. It's more of a run and gun action game than modern shooters, but fun is fun, and sometimes you need something different," big cheese George Broussard enthused when we spoke to him recently.

"Every game made today needs to consider consoles, at least in terms of complexity and control layout, so they play well on a console."

The 24th it is.

Unfortunately I doubt it will; I suspect it'll be 800...if it's 1200 they can poke it. Like Puzzle Quest I will wait till it drops to 800 (if it's any higher).

Here's hoping!

They made Doom 400 points, although different companies are behind the games, they're still quite similar in my mind.

Concidering this release is basically a commercial for the new Duke, it should be as cheap as possible, so as many people as possible download it, play it and want more.

800 points for a perfect, identical port of the PC version with achievements added-in as a soe difference (online play is already possible on the xDuke PC version)...

No widescreen support. No HD support (the game seems to run in 640x480 max).

800 points? They can rot in hell.

I was all hyped for that game. When I learned that there would be no widescreen and no HD support... well... it killed all hype I had for it.

Spnotz: Where did you learn that?
I just read some quotes from a review that names this quite good. (http://computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=197038)

Ah well, we'll just have to wait and see anyway. The resolution better be damned high..

Ah well, we'll just have to wait and see anyway. The resolution better be damned high..

I learned that from someone on the official Xbox forum who played the thing already (as part of the review process at MS, it seems), and pointed to screenshots of the game. No widescreen (there are borders on each side with some Duke Nukem artwork), and the resolution seemed pretty low, as the screen was apparently "stretched" to fit the resolution of the TV, making it look all soft looking. And the guy confirmed himself that he didn't see any option in the menus anywhere regarding widescreen support or resolution.

So there.

Oh, and here's a "great" screenshot to back up what I'm saying...

Notice the great and crisp HD artwork on the sidebars... Then have a look at the main game screen in all its muddy stretched glory...

This game will look awful on my large HDTV.

Especially since there are versions of Duke3D on the PC that have higher resolutions than this. And online play too.

So this really doesn't have anything very interesting to offer that we don't have already in another version on the PC, aside from the achievements. So for 800 Ms points? Hmmm.... no thanks.

This is what I call a very lazy port more than probably made to cash in on the "upcoming" release of Duke Nukem Forever...
